The case lid will keep falling off when open but apart from that it should be fine. ;D
(or is it just my lids that fall off due to the poor hinges) :-\

Yes. I believe I have heard similar.

If you change your headgaskets you might find the T55 isn't man enough, but apart from that mines been great! :y
Don't forget it comes with a lifetime warranty, so if anything does break Halfords will replace it. Don't lose the receipt! ;)

Thanks, Sir Tig. For £100 delivered I though I would take a punt.
If memory serves the last time it was 'on offer' it was £150....or was it £120?
I doubt they sell many (or any) for £250.

Apparently the web site says Today is manic monday :-\ 2 for £20 on tools and more offers , i will have a gander :P

I saw it advertised for that and agree it is a good price for the 170 piece. :y

They have a kit of Autoglym stuff for £20 which is pretty reasonable......bought one for the wife for xmas ;D

Love my set. All I'll say is the 'breaker bar' is pointless, given it's about 8 inch long :o and I bought myself a (Halfords) longer, flexi head ratchet, which functions brilliant as my 'every day' 'go to' ratchet. I was very sceptical about the three sizes of ratchet included, thinking all but the 1/2" drive to be pointless (Having always used nothing but a 1/2" drive Britool for donkeys years) however, found them all to be brilliant, and barely use the 1/2" drive one, now. Initially bought a Sealey ratchet, which I promptly gave away to a friend, and bought a Halfords one instead, so poor was the quality in comparison.
Can't rate it high enough, really, Other than I wish it had a 18mm spanner, 9/10.

This is where the 200pc comes in, full range of sockets and spanners, and more crossover between 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Bloody heavy, mind.

For the money, its very good. Keep receipt safe, though, as they usually insist on seeing it for warranty exchanges.
The 1/2 to 3/8 and 3/8 to 1/4 adapters are a bit weak if you really lean on them (or use impact guns ::)), but with the receipt, I've never had any quibble.

That's marginally cheaper than trade as well :y
Not being Advanced, not lifetime warranty :(, but yet to damage one:)

I did ponder this, however, literally for the wont of an 18mm spanner (got a 'it'll do for now' britool one at a car boot sale for 50p) and a longer 3/8 ratchet, decided the rest of the 200pc set wasn't worth the extra money.
Hope the good Doctor likes it :)

Indeed I do.
Most impressed with the general quality and even the case seems more substantial than I imagined.
It shouldn't be too easy to break, unless you are TB. :y

I paid £20 for my set back in the summer. While engraving my initials on them, I discovered that there are two 27mm spanners and no 26mm. As I've never used a 26mm, I still think that was a good deal

Will you stop going on about the length of your tools.

I've heard a few people mention the case breaking etc. Not saying it's unbreakable, it is plastic, after all, however, there's metal pins in there, and without being brutal, it seems pretty tough to me.
Oh, PS for about £4.99 at Halfords you can get a 1/4" - 3/8" adapter, so you can use all the 'smaller' (3/8") sockets on the beefy 1/4 drive ratchet. Worth its weight in gold, in my humble. :y

It's the hinge that comes apart, not the case or the clasp. :y Just a matter of lining the plastic lugs back up again and it's fine for carrying around again. Nothing is actually broken on either of mine, it's just that the top section comes away from the base when opened right up. Not a big problem on the scale of things. :y
-
Technically, the case is also covered by the warranty. And as they sell the cases separately, they can easily get them ;)

Its on my xmas list :y
They are quite robust (but not explosion proof), though don't sit that well in the hand compared with Wera or Draper. But at £7, well worth it :y
-
They also do a Torx screwdriver set that is handy for the Omega. Much cheaper than the Snap-on set that I indulged in several years ago.
-
I got the 95 (?) piece set for Christmas a couple of years ago and its still going strong. The hinges did fail o the box but I drilled the hinges out and installed a length of aluminium rod I had... (fell off 1 of my antennas LOL)
I have lost 1 of the 10mm 1/4" sockets, think it got stolen TBH by a 'mate' but it can easily be replaced...
I replaced the combination spanners that came with the set for a set of Advanced ratchet spanners, also replaced the 1/4" deep nut spinners with a set of Draper deep sockets that fit all sorts of shapes of nuts and bolts (they have a special star shape that grip onto nuts and bolts from trialgular shaped to multi sided)...
I have another 'heavy' socket set, but always go back to my Halfords Pro set for ease of use and carrying around... I dunno where the receipt went to, think it got chucked when I couldnt read the writing on it coz it seemed to go a black/brown colour....
-
They use them naughty receipts that fade over time. So the general thing is to photocopy the receipt before it does that. However, lots of stories on line of people going in - minus the receipt - and them still honouring the lifetime warranty anyway. If you're friendly with your local Halfords place, well worth an ask.

A member of staff was claiming they now no longer need receipt on lifetime warranty stuff, but do send it off to manufacturer, who send replacement back to store. Less convenient :(
But he might have been talking 'dangle berries'.

Yup.
Depends who you speak to weather it needs a receipt or not. The view of our shop is that its stamped Halfords and therefore it could only have come from us (OK you could have stolen it etc., but it hasn't come from Morrison's for example).
In theory if its the ratchet that is broke we have replacement ratchet innards that can be replaced on the spot, if its a damaged socket just swap them out and if all else fails split a set to get the relevant pieces. There is a spares company who is tasked with keeping every spare part needed for anything we sell from ride on toys to individual sockets but they are a pain to deal with.
Like everything in life, there are people who are happy to help and try and others who seem to revel in making things hard. For goodness sake its not hard to process a sale through the till and then return it to swap your bits but some don't want the hassle!

Good to know. :y

Good to know. :y
Mine was ordered online so I only have a printed A4 sized invoice.
-
that's fine. Like I said its not really needed. It all depends on if the person you are speaking to in the shop is old school Halfords or not.
One thing I will say is that if you have reason to complain is NOT to complain to the store as the complaint is not logged and therefore there is plenty of scope for said complaint to disappear, complain in writing to customer services or speak to them on the phone. The complaint is sent to the shop via the area manager who will then make sure its resolved and the shop in question will get it marked against their performance figures (and ultimately bonuses).

Doubly worth knowing! :) Thank you
