Not sure it's up there with a naked skydive into a barrel full of soaped up glamour models, but here's a fun little reaction time test

About as scientific as hearing what another bloke in the pub's mate reckons about the moon landings, but interesting nonetheless. :)

Started off at 43 yr old, then 33 30 & 26 ....... not bad for a 53 yr old fart :y :y
-
Started at 35 and consistently 27 thereafter...
-
37 on the first. After that anything from 24-34. Still not bad though :y
-
Started off at 32 and reduced to 21-22 after that :D
-
consistently 31-34 .. not bad as I'm twice that !!! :)
-
293 milliseconds, 'we're not even sure if you're a human being' :-\
-
First one 26, second 25 third 27. Pretty consistent if nowt else.
-
You old grandad... 291 milliseconds :y
Not that reaction times aren't important, but I did watch a program where they took an average person on the street and a wimbledon winning tennis player and tested the one against the other. Basically they were the same. Reaction times are effectively 'preprgrammed in' to us as human beings. A tennis player appears to have better reaction time (same for a goalkeeper etc) because they predict where the ball is going before it leaves the foot/bat/racket.
Mind, that all being said, me and Stemo appear to be in the 'Airbag/pretensioner deployment' category :D 8)

27 first, 22 second. Not bad, I'm 37.
Thought I was going to need them this morning when a large van (I missed the make - maybe an older Sprinter) decided he wanted to do significantly more than 50mph through the M3 roadworks and went from behind me in lane 3 to in front of me in lane 1 then back to lane 3 only narrowly (by inches, if that) avoiding clipping the rear corner of the car in front of me as he snaked through the gap which would have likely turned that car around and started a nice game of vehicular pinball.
Anyway.. I'll take 27. Clearly that's the only bit of me that young.. ;D
-
270 milliseconds...... I'm not human either Steve. Pretty good as my next big birthday will have a 7 at the start... ;)
-
:y
That story, aaronjb, just proves that reaction times are one thing.. but what you do with those reaction times in the real world are what matter. If you're able to panic within 0.25 of a second that's far, far worse than taking a full second to take the correct action. The fact you're not typing this via your phone in a hospital bed proves this :y (unless you are typing this from a hospital bed?? :-\ :D ) Glad you're still with us :y

It must be what they put in the Lincolnshire water ;)
-
It told me to go to Specsavers.... :-\
-
I was so fast they said I'm not even born yet ::)
-
Worth a go - first try 29yo - rest between 18 and 23 yo - not bad for 70 ;)
-
Thing is....after the first go, you know what to expect. Just got swmbo to try it and first go, was age 90 :o
But then knowing what was coming, she got it down to 34 !!!!!! ;D
-
I was so fast they said I'm not even born yet ::)
I couldn't even be bothered to wait for the page to load. ::)
-
23 first go - second go not human apparently.
-
19 years old first go then 'im not even human now' :D
-
I was so fast they said I'm not even born yet ::)
you're sure that wasn't the missus who said that? ;D
-
Looking at this selection of results we can conclude that despite having lets say delicately an older base, Omega drivers have fast reactions.
Is there something we can read into that or did only the fast people respond? ;D ;D

My conclusion is that it's a stupid, pointless game that has no bearing at all on real life situations. :)

I was rubbish, my laptop must be slow ;D

There's no age limit on driving....unfortunately.
-
I'm not going to embarrass you youngsters by quoting my reaction times. I'll just say that they prove that age is not necessarily the problem. I also agree that its what you do when faced with the emergency that counts. :y

I just hit on the solution to our overcrowded roads.
We are repeatedly told the population is getting older and that we are overrun by OAPs with not enough young people to support them (see also: immigration). So if we banned everyone over, say, 55 from driving the roads would probably be really quiet.
I think I'll start one of those online petition things (that achieve absolutely nothing) ;)
*hides from the OOF retirees*
(Only joking, that would only give me 18 driving years left :'( )
-
35...32.....31....40.
-
:( Just don't walk out in front of me :(

I got 36 , mind you I must have got a 17 yesterday when a young girl appeared in front of me from nowhere in front of a parked van,she flew out on those trainers with wheels built in. I swear I stopped an inch from her, she had her hands on the bonnet as it screeched to a stop and I had the death grip on the wheel :o. Poor girl shot off like a scolded cat but I slowed down further up to check she was ok and gave some green cross code advice.

"Stay on the pavement you stupid little bint or I'll come round your house and s*** through your letterbox" kind of advice? :-\
-
Oh my God, Omegod. :o Couldnt believe it a very similar thing happened to me the other day, too, young girl (well, late teens, early 20s, maybe) wandered out onto the road without looking. But, I had clocked her not looking whilst still on the pavement, so I was already slowing down pretty sharpish before she set foot on tarmac. Only as she was directly in front of me did she glance right. Only then got a proper look at her, eyes streaming, face scrunched up, her mind was elsewhere and was clearly really upset, she held her hands up in apology, mouthed 'I am so sorry' through the tears; poor thing looked like she'd like been told her family has been killed in a coach crash or something :(

How to increase your reaction times:
Step 1 - Buy Electric car
Step 2 - Drive it in town where there are lots of pedestrians
Was certainly a shock when I first got it :o

and I thought that MAMIL's had razor sharp reactions. :-\ ;)

I got 44 year old first time using the mouse then changed tack and did it with the keyboard and got `you`re not human` every time, about five time on the bounce.

Only when they've got the gear on. It's a bit like the Spiderman / Peter Parker thing. ;D
-
At 49yo and I have the reaction time of a 23yo, though I am glad I have the experience of a long term professional driver and not a boy racer :y Experience trumps youth due to ability to read the road and the numpties on it. ;D
-
Had a try..it came up with 47 year old..not bad for 71....still must have it then...but not sure what it is,, ;D ;D

With you on that one , they should make them a bit noisier , spookily silent
