Saw the above on an advert, I have no idea on either of them, but welcome any thought on what experiences members have of any brand of alarm and immobilizer

Plus what is considered to be the best on the market :y

What the UK Automotive Community Recommends

From Reddit and user forums:

Autowatch Ghost‑II is widely considered a benchmark for standalone CAN‑bus immobilisers. Many users praise its effectiveness in preventing keyless theft.
    Reddit+13Reddit+13Reddit+13

However, Ghost hasn’t received Thatcham insurance approval, and some users caution about possible execution latency (~90% success rate in some cases).
    Reddit+7Reddit+7Specialist Trackers UK+7

Meta Trak S5 Deadlock Pro is frequently favored over Ghost thanks to its insurance approval, remote kill-switch and track & immobilise combo.

I recently found out the I-Pace comes as standard with a tracker, but only for the first 12 months.

No idea how much a subscription costs after that.

No doubt it would still be easy to steal and then hide.

………….
Viper 106V Immobiliser – £339
(Traditional immobiliser, trusted for decades) ………

Otherwise known as Clifford in the UK, and as you say, they have been about forever.  :y

The type of system really depends on what you want from it. GPS tracking lets you know where your car is when it gets stolen…… or at least its last known location before it went into the shipping container. You’ll have the comfort of knowing where it was but you’ll still be without a car, which as a business would be losing you jobs.
Ghost should keep your car where you left it, unless it gets towed, but it lacks the Thatcham certification for cheaper insurance I believe.
Personally, I’d rather keep my car where I’d left it.  :y

………..

I had a tracker on my last caravan. If I remember correctly the price became more reasonable if you paid in multiple years, so a three year deal would work out much cheaper than paying for three individual years annually.  I think the subscription is around £12 per month/£120’ish per year if paid for annual cover.

Competent 'car crooks' are well aware of a tracker and can usually find a way around the problem.

Yes they're more of a visual deterrent that add a bit more hassle, and so the thief moves on to easier pickings.

If a wrongun is determined to nick your car and has the skills, it's gone whatever you do.  ::)

That's exactly the reason that they would be shite.

Yes they're more of a visual deterrent that add a bit more hassle, and so the thief moves on to easier pickings.

If a wrongun is determined to nick your car and has a set of dollies and a trailer, it's gone whatever you do.  ::)
Fixed.

Fire away on Trackers, I have been very involved with them for many years now (both the built in ones, which are always a compromise, and the likes of Tracker, CanTrack etc etc)

I'd still wager that most car thieves would move on when they see one on the steering wheel though.  ;)

They don't, most of the thefts are targeted, they go out knowing what vehicle they are taking and these basic locks are zero deterrent.

Lets face it, they have invested enough to get around all the security features and immobilisers so a lever or cordless grinder is no bother to add (and this is exactly what they do having seen cars in the chop shops)
