I would bet a gonad it doesn't get above 30mph.

Half an hour to do 10 miles. Hopeless heap of shite.

Then, upon arrival, 20 mins to buy a ticket - no ticket machine at Bicester, and no conductor to buy one on train

Post by: tunnie on 30 November 2011, 12:37:31
eh? last time i used Bicester they had two ticket machines?

Don't need conductor on the train, ticket booth at London you can buy your ticket there, before exiting the barriers.

Even more frustrating, despite the hype, the 'event' I went for was a non-event.  So we went to some museums instead.

There are other places other than London that the Chiltern Slug goes to. Warwick, Leamington, Brum etc etc.  In this case, Oxford.  I went to Oxford in the hope of goading the protesters, but never found any. Gutted.

No sure if I mentioned, I rather hate the Chiltern Slug.

Despite arriving with 6mins spare to buy a ticket, I missed the planned train  >:(, and the next tinker was delayed, unsurprisingly (as its run by rather retards).  And its over £60 for this privilege - far cheaper (and quicker) to drive.

Remind me again why we subsidise this outdated Victorian system?

Later this year I will be travelling between Aylesbury and Theale on a regular basis over a period of a few weeks... was considering rail, but the journey is nearly 2 and a half hours - with a change in London!

Because the hoops to jump through to claim back the congestion charge are so difficult, I just put up with the long winded approval process for the train.

Less than half that by car. And cheaper.  The Aylesbury line doesn't go anyway but Aylesbury-Marylebone, and that bit is just over an hour (due to sharing track with Metropolitan Underground from about Harrow)

quit moaning, I used Chiltern for about 3 years commuting to London. In that time it was only once late more than 30 mins, it was fairly common to be around 3-6 mins late.

But, if you know what your doing & plan ahead, I always got a seat, every time, always got the train I aimed for. Compared to the likes of First Great Western they are far better. All the trains are A/C, clean & bright.

So they are not fast, it was never a main line (despite what they say now) so i took a book or watched some TV & relaxed.

6 mins is not enough to park & buy a ticket, you could have bought online and first or if you were late, use the ticket box on the inside of the barriers at London.

JamesV6 - you will notice no LPG in or around Aylesbury

Tunnie - the trains are not clean and bright, and they still operate some slamdoor carriages. 6m should be enough to buy a ticket (already parked), only one customer in front, and the internal ticket machines not working. It's a shite service, and overpriced, and should have all subsidies withdrawn. Just because it's not as bad as some, that does not make it 'good'. And I'm typing this on one of their Clubman trains, and the rather wifi isn't working (mind you, even when it is, GPRS is faster

Bit unfair, they have a single "bubble car" which does the Princes Risborough to Aylesbury, only at peak. Its only 1 carriage!

Also their 165 fleet was heavily refurbished, all of them got A/C, new displays and over-hauls. No other 165 fleet operator has done that in the south.

They are doing best they can with what they have, lets also not forget there recent 200 million upgrade was done by private funding, no public money  ;)

Nope, they have entire slamdoor trains doing the Banbury to London route. Its a rather disgrace.

My 20m late train this morning was class 'on time', I assume to keep their figures good. Lying barstards.  With the possible exception of (south east? - the ones feeding Brighton), its the worse train service I've used. Always has been since Network South East became Chiltern.

Those London ones are not true "slam door", those were scrapped. (never worked Chiltern line anyway) Besides I wish I could have taken those ones you took, they are loco-hauled & give a much smooth ride than those modern DMU's

This is a slam door...

1) Go from Milton Keynes
2) Go from Banbury into Paddington

Or drive as far as Hillingdon or say Park Royal/North Acton, park and then take the tube  :-\

1) is a frequent option. In this case, as I was unable to claim mileage, I used the nearest station. Its a massively better service than the slug, and dumps you in a useful part of London.
2) try to avoid the land of the inbreds in its entirity, but esp the train station, which (being Oxfordshire) is not really accessible by road at any time outside of 1am-4am time.
3) in this case, I was not allowed to claim congestion charge, thus means I have to use the UK's utterly useless, overpriced, inefficient train service. And by using that, it precludes me from claiming mileage.

As to the slamdoors, its the old rolling stock scrapped by the Shropshire franchise.

Bit tight refusing petrol millage to station!

Park Royal, or Acton area is miles away from Congestion Charge. Some roads near me are free to park, all day, every day. Its 6 minutes on the train to Paddington or 25 mins to Oxford Circus.

I'd like using Shropshires trains, much smoother & vibration free.

FGW, now thats a disgraceful service having used that for 6 months,

Lets do some maths, and assume that one of the other 100,000,000 sperm were faster that the one that created than useless retard, Ken Livingston, and there was no Congestion Charge (which grates more than paying to enter Wales - at least Wales is a nice place).

If I drove to the site I was at today, right by the Thames, I'd use about 7 gallons at less than £4 per gallon, and about £16 parking. So around £40, there abouts, all in.  And lets face it, my car isn't the most economical, and nor am I, and about 1hr45 mins each way.

I take the useless slug, cost was over £60, from leaving home this morning until arriving at the site was just over 2hr30.

Already, the Slug doesn't make any sense. Now if 2 need to go...  ...or 3...  ...or 4...

Its absolutely flawed.

I'd add in the congestion charge, but the TFL site was built by retards, and although the individual words make sense, the sentences didn't. Well, not for those that don't play wankwordbingo.  Nowhere on there could I find a price for the congestion charge, but from memory, is £25 per car...  ...making using a big, gas guzzling 3.0l auto about break-even cost wise to the slow, cramped, unreliable slug.

Should have registered with TFL, as LPG cars used to be free. Think that scheme has ended now, but if you were registered still means no congestion charge

Opposite Bromley by bow tube is a large block of new apartments.A large section of the car park isnt numbered for residents, its for visitors, contractors etc. Park there, leave a not in the window "visiting number 167....", walk across the road and hop on the tube. Dead rather easy. :)
I used to have a residents parking permit for there but not any longer.I do still have a book of residents parking tickets for Hackney though. ::)

Even when it was available you had to have a car and LPG kit endorsed by them, fitted by an LPGA retard, so the chances of it running long enough to get to London would have been slim. ;)

I took the time to decode the TFL "wankwordbingo" game and got this: "Ken's daily tax free bonus through a third party company"  ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

Been on WSR today (sorry Hornby Man, its steam, not diesel).

WSR is faster, smoother (except the unwelded rails) and quieter than the crappy slug ;D
