ok,took the omega for a nice long run today (about 100miles) i reset the computer before i left, just got home and it was reading around 27.7 MPG...
my omega is 2.0 CDX 1999
what should it be doing?
-
Manual or auto?
-
Sorry.. Auto
-
I got 28mpg out of my 3.2 other day on my run to London ;D ;D
Manual or auto, a well serviced 4 potter should be able to crack 30mpg easily on long run.
Air filter been changed recently? Fuel filter? Oil changes?
-
Mine was doing 32mpg on the motorways at 70ish for 100 miles or so.
That dropped to 30ish on the way back home due to going a tad faster! :y
-
Forgot to say, that was in a 3.0 Auto, so I would expect 35ish in a 2.0 IMO.
-
oh.. i see! could the lower mpg have anything to do with engine management light for crank shaft sensor....
also i think baffles have gone in the exhaust.. that might not be helping...
-
Best so far from my 3.2 auto in the month I've been running it:

Yes and yes, to both of those.. especially the latter, I suspect.
Oh and ignore Tunnie's mpg, he drives like your grandmother. ;)

Or possibly I'm just jealous since I've never managed to breach 30mpg in mine.. ;D

What you have to remember is a lot of the people here, ermmm how shall I put this.... carry extra "ballast" - They also have digital throttles fitted, its either "on" of "off" ;D ;D ;D
Seriously though i get 25-28mpg usually out my 3.2 & 30-34 out of my 2.2
Sounds like it needs a good service! :y :y

We can't all be built like racing snakes, you know.. :P

To make a significant advance on the 1800kg kerb weight of the car through body mass would be a real feat of dedication, IMHO. ;D

Well if I got down to my 'ideal' weight, I'd make a .. 5% dent in it :-[ :-[

Full Service it is then! just looked at the book, it was last stamped @ 69k (by vauxhall) but have got invoices for filters and oil which was brought last year so think its been serviced since the last stamp!
-
my 2,5 V6 manual on highway, going steady 85mph...32,5MPG. This was with studless wintertyres on snowy roads 8) messured over a distance of 279 miles, not bad I think :)
-
Im averaging the equivelant of 30mpg on LPG. :(
-
A good service is a must. Stupidly, I didn't realise how important this was!
However, I also think driving style is a lot to do with it. On long runs cruising at 70 seems to give me very good economy figures even if I decide to accelerate further to 95** for a while.
However, around town you really have to employ a ''smooth'' and careful driving style. If you decide to go a bit loopy*** round town and accelerate hard and brake at lights constantly you will really see your Omega dine directly from your current account! :y
**the speed limit was only ever exceeded on my friend's private test track. I have never exceeded the speed limit on public roads
***the comment is not suggesting the OP has the potential to turn loopy in any way

Should be a little better than that even though you say it's an auto.
Best ever in our manual 2.0 over a full tank was just under 38mpg average: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=43828.msg659559#msg659559

28mpg for a 4-cylinder auto is quite good.
-
well ive got a run from northampton to bristol coming up very soon, might just reset it for this... motorway all the way if its under 28mpg will give it a service well in bristol and see what the return trip sends out!
