We can't all be built like racing snakes, you know..  :P

To make a significant advance on the 1800kg kerb weight of the car through body mass would be a real feat of dedication, IMHO. ;D

Well if I got down to my 'ideal' weight, I'd make a .. 5% dent in it  :-[ :-[

A good service is a must. Stupidly, I didn't realise how important this was!

However, I also think driving style is a lot to do with it. On long runs cruising at 70 seems to give me very good economy figures even if I decide to accelerate further to 95** for a while.

However, around town you really have to employ a ''smooth'' and careful driving style. If you decide to go a bit loopy*** round town and accelerate hard and brake at lights constantly you will really see your Omega dine directly from your current account!  :y

**the speed limit was only ever exceeded on my friend's private test track. I have never exceeded the speed limit on public roads

***the comment is not suggesting the OP has the potential to turn loopy in any way

ok,took the omega for a nice long run today (about 100miles) i reset the computer before i left, just got home and it was reading around 27.7 MPG...

my omega is 2.0 CDX 1999

what should it be doing?

Should be a little better than that even though you say it's an auto.

Best ever in our manual 2.0 over a full tank was just under 38mpg average: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=43828.msg659559#msg659559

28mpg for a 4-cylinder auto is quite good.
