Ive just bought a full bose setup for my omega estate as police had it removed from spec!
Now Before i fit it & blow it up fry head unit or blow speakers/amp i was wondering.......
It has been posted before about bose systems & can people please not redirect me to another post please ive looked at some of the posts but doesnt really anser my quiery... all i require is a yes or no if no why please....
Can i fit this bose system to a STANDARD vauxhall CDR500 cd headunit fitted as standard or does it have to be a cassette headunit with bose written on it & run a cd changer that i dont really want??
Because i really dont want to break it up?
My old CDR500 packed up on knob volume went up when turning down, so as a temp i fitted a alpine/kenwood/sony/clarion headunits but all sounded crap at 1/4 volume with what i thort were standard speakers which then started blowing...
ive read the post about 2ohm & 4ohm speaker setup & guessed that the uprated headunits may be blowing the standard speakers...
but on rear of speakers once removed only say 25w...... crappy brown paper things....
ive fitted a pair of sony 120w speakers & sony headunit 4x50w & they sounded crap (distorting at half volume)
so i changed them to clarion 220w speakers & a clarion headunit 4x40w & they too sound crap so i thort sod it!!
Fit standard..!!! put back in a replacement cdr500 with atmo clarion speakers & again headunit on full & not very loud at all but distorted...
So do all standard vauxhall headunits run a 2ohm or just the bose... as speakers obviously 4ohm... but why would uprated speakers & a headunit still sound crap??? or is it because leaving in the standard rear speakers is screwing up headunit??
Thats why i bought the bose setup all 4 speakers wiring loom amp & bose sub & a standard cdr500 headunit but will it all work properly or have i over looked anything...???
All help gratefully recieved Thanks

Sorry mate, I'm no expert, but the problem with Bose is usually compatability. CDR500 is a single din unit isn't it? Was this the HU fitted as standard to Elite models? If it was then you should be okay I would have thought? As you say there are also issues with speakers, but I'm not sure why you weren't able to find an aftermarket setup to your taste, from those you tried. Often original is best for a variety of reasons, but the Bose setup is much discussed and often berated, and some may see it as anachronistic. Don't imagine a cd changer would have any bearing on the situation either, and I don't think the head units had Bose written on them, though stand to be corrected.
Just my thoughts, and someone with a specific knowledge will be able to guide you further :y

can people please not redirect me to another post please ive looked at some of the posts but doesnt really anser my quiery
Then please try actually reading the posts that people are redirecting you to, as your question is very clearly answered along with the reasons why.
No, you cannot use a non-Bose head unit with a Bose system and as you appear unable to read the threads you are being directed to, I shall include a passage here for you. if you do not understand this, please let me know which bit is causing confusion and I shall try to reword it.
Head Units
Not all standard OEM head units are compatible with the BOSE system. Generally, the NCDxxxx and CCRTxxxx head units were the models of choice, although some models (not all) of CCR2006 could be programmed for BOSE outputs. The output of a BOSE enabled stereo is of a different voltage level to that of conventional car audio and this can lead to some compatibility issues that we shall discuss later.
Please read the Bose guide at the top of this thread - and if you have a problem that is not covered there, then I would be more than happy to revise it for you and include an answer.
and I don't think the head units had Bose written on them, though stand to be corrected.
Some had Bose on the fascia/flap (mainly the CCRTxxx models) and some of the double Din models would disply Bose on the screen if they had been reconfigured with tech2 - not that this helped to determine if a non powered head could be utilised or not.

ive read the post about 2ohm & 4ohm speaker setup & guessed that the uprated headunits may be blowing the standard speakers...
Indeed - an aftermarket head unit output power will exceed the OEM speaker capabilities
but on rear of speakers once removed only say 25w...... crappy brown paper things....
I think you have answered your own concern there !!
ive fitted a pair of sony 120w speakers & sony headunit 4x50w & they sounded crap (distorting at half volume)
Have you replaced the front speakers also, or are the "crappy paper cone" fronts still limiting the capabilities of your system ? Just replacing the rears is not going to do anything for you at all.
so i changed them to clarion 220w speakers & a clarion headunit 4x40w & they too sound crap so i thort sod it!!
Remember when changing to aftermarket speakers, to take the advice of an audio specialist, and not just replace with the cheapest speakers you can afford - the budget ranges of speakers often do little to improve the sound - and it may often be advisable to jump to the next range upwards of speakers to achieve the sound you are after, or a particular type of speaker to suit your audio tastes.

Being an MV6 / Rx Police, your Car wouldn't have had Bose fitted, so assuming the plod haven't messed around with your speaker system (They dont as a rule, normally Radio Comm speaker in the Int Light Housing and or under the Foot Panels) then yours will have a standard 4 ohm set up, so OEM HU should be fine.
If you want to retro fit a Bose setup then its all or nothing, fit Bose HU, Amp, Speakers, Sub Box (Estate), and the Bose wiring loom, only thing thats the same will be the Tweeters.
Being a 99 I assume you didn't get it direct from the police, could be previous owner(s) have had a bit of a play, best to decide which way you want to go with this, Bose or Standard / OEM and get all the components and wiring checked out.

Hi the 2 rear speakers are standard paper type atmo, it was the 2 fronts that blew indevidually... n/s 1st then o/s a few days after... but only after i changed the head unit from the standard cdr500 (with volume control fault) to a sony xplode head unit that i had in my astra estate on standard speakers working fine.. but in omega sounds odd... so as you say could it be the rears limiting its capabilitys??
so i then thort that maybe the head unit blew them due to power of 4x50w... so i had a pair of new sony speakers sat in a cuboard & fitted them, but 1 speaker loud other quiet...
so i just thort great a duff speaker..
so removed them & fitted the clarion speakers ive used for 3years in my laguna.. but both worked but not very loud...
so thort they may be uncompatable with the sony so fitted the clarion headunit 4x25w but again distort at low volume... thats when i read the BOSE quotes on here...
thinking tho the police had the bose removed from spec did they only remove half the system maybe??
are the speakers all 2ohm & head unit??
looking at the standard front speakers all they say is 25w... but as they have blown i calnt put a meter across them to check ohms...
basicly does any body know if the CDR500 is a 2ohm or 4ohm headunit?? as i dont really want a auto changer & cassette headunit...
I have all the bose system i.e Cables amp sub box 4xdoor speakers & tweeters but No Cassette or auto changer.
& yes police have left in the speaker above interior light but does not work.
Previous Keeper after police was a 75yrs gent who passed away & he did nothing! to the car in all the years he owned it never washed (except rain!) or hovered.. just new tyres & a bottom wishbone anyway...
-
Im Not very good on computers im alot better speaking on the phone...
if you are happy to help me easyer over the phone can you pm me a mob number & i contact you asap...
as ive got a full leather setup to fit in car & was going to change speakers fit sub/amp & fit all cables at same time to bose...
as its driving me mad at moment!!! most of the electrics on car are having faults due to police tapins to loom!!
stereo may be 1 other thing they tapped into maybe...
Cheers In advance so far for peoples help :y

Your standard fitted speakers will be 4ohm as is the CDR500

Your standard fitted speakers will be 4ohm as is the CDR500
And CDR500 is NOT COMPATABLE with Bose
-
As previously said your MV6 whether ex plod or not would have not come fitted with Bose so it would have been a standard HU with 4ohm setup.
If its not sounding right then somethings wrong, either rip it out and check the components and wiring and fix it or fit your Bose setup with a compatible Bose HU.
Job done.

So would i be better off with a uprated sony headunit 4xspeakers all of same brand & output & fit a sub in boot? i have a full sony xplode set up 10cm 120w & 13cm 160w & already realised i need adaptor plates to fit in car doors.. 2x12" pentaginal subs with xplode amps & an xplode head unit 4x50w...
Or shall i fit the bose system... But What CD head unit is compatable??? AS the CDR500 is 4ohm :( or is it only cassette & multi changer option?? i think guy still has a cassette headunit & changer but out of a elite 97 saloon.. but will it be compatable says bose on cassette flap...
or do each bose system have a specific set up comes as a package setup? if 1 head unit fails you calnt just fit an exsact model & it will work??
Is Anybody LOCAL to Worcester J7 M5 & has an estate with bose system fitted i could hear working...???
Again Sorry to go over this already nearly exhausted posted question....

Its going to have to be your choice as to whether you fit Bose or not, might be worth waiting till you've heard one and then decide, there a lot better than the standard set up and a cheap upgrade with an added bonus on the Estates of a pre made Sub Box thats ready to fit, having said all that there not brilliant by today's standards and or not going to sound as good as a modern good OEM up grade.
All the Bose Amps across the Mig range were the same so the Bose HU's had similar interface outputs but that's not to say that HU's are going to be compatible with your Radio Display or its wiring, your friends HU will probably either a Bose CCR800 or CCRT700.

mines bose buddy, but im near to coventry

Better still I give up, :-X

Your doing it again Zippy, give it up!

BOSE will not connect to anything aftermarket whatsoever
I too am giving up.

MODERATOR PLEASE DELETE THIS TOPIC......
Thank you, as i dont know how to?

No need to delete this - hopefully others will understand that what you have asked cannot be done, but don`t worry, you are not the first to have asked this, and you certainly (unfortunately) will not be the last.
Bose is a real headache for Omega owners, and the trouble is that when you are new to it, it can be very frustrating to accept that there is not a solution, and I can understand that there is always the hope that you can find a way to make it work. Regrettably the forum is full of posts of other members frustrations and heartaches, and it is always worth a good read through them to save yourself from making similar mistakes.
However, from the PM you have just sent me, you appear to think that you may have offended me with your rantings, and I can truly say that is not the case - it would take much more than that to upset me, and I wanted to make this point in public rather than by PM. We are all friends on here, and if we all agreed with each other then this forum would be a very dull place indeed - the forum needs friendly banter, technical advice is always available - but please be aware that it is highly likely that many questions have been asked and answered by someone previously over the years, so its always worth trawling the archives, else it gets a bit "same same" on here.
Now if you really want to see how difficult is it to offend people on here, I shall make two statements (again - terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired) that most on here know already, but you may not.
1) - I can`t stand BOSE equipment
2 )- I can`t stand Vauxhall Omega`s
See, even after saying that, I`m still allowed on here because the Oofers on here are all friendly, and are more than happy to endulge in some friendly banter with me albeit whilst sharpening the pitchforks for when they can finally hunt me down.
:P

Cheers mate due to my brain not been able to quite say what im trying to ask or it coming across backwards or missing words or using the incorect ones & even missing words out im trying not to offend people... also my spelling is a bit to say odd.. i can use the same word in a sentance twice & spel it too different ways.. any ways
i can now conclude that im not going to bother with the bose system but insted fit the full sony setup as the bose wont run my 2 extra subs due to the 2ohm headunit...
i thort that the head unit ran the amp which converted the power settings to the speakers & sub box via a different loom but i now know other wise...
shame tho because my mates bose system in his audi a3 sounds great, lovely & clear but just wants the extra bit of bass...
and as another oof user said was that the old 98spec bose system isnt going to be as good as a new updated 4ohm system...
so if any body is interested in a full bose system letme know (no headunit or autochanger tho) all i want is what i payed for it....
cheers to everybody who has commented on this post & if anybody can come up with a way to get a 2ohm system & headunit to run a 4ohm amp let me know soon! or are amps/subs available in 2ohm..... that could be compatable i wonder.....
