Nice write up there Dave, some good pointers as well, ie Tweeter position, correct Speaker phasing and my old favorite, RMS, peak, peal to Peak, Max etc, etc. that one nearly always ends in tears.

Nice one, Chris. ;)

Thanks for the kind comments guys - -

But here is a question for you that should spark some debate:

What peice of music would you take with you to try out a set of speakers and why?

Inetersting to see how they differ from the tracks we use

 ???

Cant get enough - Bad company.Volume set at 11 in true spinal tap style.See if I can pop my other eardrum.  :D ;D
That guide will be invaluable. Particularily to those of us who have little knowledge of the technical side of ICE. It really can be a very confusing subject.

Showing my age now, for me, something from Dire Straights, Funeral for a Friend, Golden Brown and Always find me in the Kitchen at Parties, not because there my favs, but I consider the Tracks to be quiet well mixed at the Studios for there era, the last track I dont actually like, but it was listening to that track on a then new all Mission set up in a Laskys studio that convinced me that from now on my music is going to be played 'Flat' with the right equipment.

Those were the days.

Chris.

Saxon / wheels of steel (live)
Any Gary Moore
Evenesance / My Emortal  ( imo, Amy Lee has a incredible voice on a good setup )
And last but not least ............... Vivaldi / The four seasons  :y

Agreed, remember some time back got hold of one of their bolt on speaker in Amps for the Car, sounded bloody all-full.

They mainly do speakers now, but I did fall in love with their original 776 and 777 set up, Battery Pre Amp by the way.

Now we're talking!
Saxon - aah, memories. Still going tho  :y
Gary Moore - what a sad loss  :'(. His live version of 'Emerald' is immense.
Amy Lee gets my vote too.
There are so many others too Dave, thanks for bringing it up!!!
I guess 'The Trees' by Rush would be up there, with maybe 'The Clansman' by Iron Maiden.
Oh, the list could go on ....... and on .........  ;)

Thanks for the guide, Dave. :y Very concise and informative.

Toccata and fugue in D minor for Organ is a favourite "system breaker" of mine. See if there's still any detail in the treble when the 32' pipes are sucking out all the energy they can. ;)

Some violin music, because that sounds terrible on all but the sweetest tweeters. Ditto some female vocals.

Some Pink Floyd, obviously.

.. and whatever else suits my mood.

Ahh . . . Some classic tracks coming out here . . . . :)

Toccata and fugue is probably the track that got me into music, but not in a classical way.

When I was very young (about 12), we stayed at Butlins in Minehead, and we were subjected to a variety of abysmal stage treats, acts and sounds - it was bloody awfull.

But then on stage came half a dozen guys with very loud electric guitars and a drummer, and played the most amazing rock track I had ever heard - Toccata and fugue, and I was captivated.

There are many versions of Toccata and fugue, or rather the way it is played and instruments used, usually synths or church organs being the favourite, but to hear a rock version with nothing but electric guitars is just awesome. I`d love to find a copy of the track with guitars, but all I ever come across is the version by Sky in the eighties, and it just isn`t "Rocky" enough for me, and most guitarists just try to play it as fast as they can as a technical challenge.

Always find me in the Kitchen at Parties

I`ve always thought that would make a great track, but never found a copy of it that was recorded well enough to demonstrate the speaker capabilities.

A thoroughly good and informative read.

I openly admit to knowing nothing about audio or car audio, which is why I leave OE well alone whilst it's working fine!

Thank you Dave for taking the time to write that all out, so that the rest of us now at least, have a partial understanding of how it all works :y

Kevin, nice amp !

It wasn't that great when I got it, TBH. My cousin bought a pair of them cheap and came to me when it was clear they needed some work. It had been the subject of some unsympathetic "upgrades" and, even when tidied up and put back to standard spec. it wasn't that stable. Spent a while "taming" it with a view to getting it working and selling it on, but, on hearing it, I decided it was going nowhere.

hi reading thru here and we have used the bose as a starting point for our stereo upgrades, as it is a lazy way of wiring the amp in as all connections are in one location and ran to all corners, and then change the speakers for 2 way component seperates, headunit and some signal wires, and seperate band pass sub with it ported thru the holes in the rear shelf with the subs removed, kack
