Omega General Help / Re: petrol usage
« on: 08 September 2011, 21:29:34 »
I have a 3.0 MV6 estate (auto)
Most of my driving is motorway and I get anywhere from 34 - 39 mpg and thats with a load onboard. Having said that, I dont ever put the pedal into the carpet whilst accelerating. I've always found the bigger engines give a better return in bigger cars, never had anything smaller than 2.5 L in an estate or saloon. my 2.8 beemer will return 40mpg on the motorway.

Thats the symptom that I have alright, the light goes out for a matter of seconds and then comes back on. I have no idea why this started happening. I'm guessing that it was just a coincedence that I was in a carwash at the time. Bloody anoying tho  >:(

Where would I find Mr Wood?

Omega General Help / Airbag Warning light
« on: 27 July 2011, 15:36:24 »
Afternoon gents, I treated the car to a car wash this afternoon and was suprised to see the airbag warning light come on  >:( whilst the machine removed several thousand miles of road dirt/general crud from the paintwork. I didnt notice any of the rollers ram the front of the car at any point. I hoped that turning the ignition off and on might fix the problem, what was I thinking, its not a pc or printer :D!
Any advise or checks that I can make? Driving down to SW france on saturday, so no chance of any main dealer intervention before that.

Thanks sooooo much for the posts :y. Routing the new cable was fun or not >:(, depending on patience levels. It all seems to be working ok for now, took the old girl on a test drive to Bracknell and back, all seems good. 8-)

saved the page with the photo, just in case.

Cheers

Afternoon gents, I need some urgent advice please.
My crankshaft sensor failed yesterday. Mangaed to get the car home and have purchased hopefully the correct part. I can see where it is fixed at the bottom of the engine, but cannot find the plug at the top. I believe it should be somewhere around the HBV. Can anyone give me a more precise pointer.
Much appreciated in advance.

Omega General Help / Re: A question of looms

Excellent, I'm guessing the trims can be swapped over easily enough. I can feel a trip to Hereford coming on. Many thanks RobG.

Ah, when exactly did the facelift model come in? I have the grill, albeit plastic  in the bonnet. I'm new to Omegas as you may have gathered....This could be important though as I need to replace the tailgate, its a bit crumpled. The bollard jumped out behind me, honest :-[. I have spotted a 97-99 tailgate on ebay thats the right colour. On the brink of buying it

Thanks RobG, I've had a quick look at the link, it looks quite complicated at first, but do-able. I'll have a shufty under my bonnet at the weekend and see whats already in place where the switches are concerned. My motor is a 2000 model, so I think i'm right in saying its a pre facelift model.

Omega General Help / A question of looms
« on: 07 June 2011, 22:02:53 »
I have a question to ask about the loom(s) in my MV6.
Are the looms all the same in all models of Omega? i.e, will the wiring exist for all the add ons that the higher spec cars have. I've noticed that in my dads Vauxhall Frontera, he has the wiring already for heated seats even though his car spec isn't high enough to have heated seats as "standard", so all he needs to get is the switch gear. The reason for my question is to assertain whether it would be possible to replace the left hand stalk on my steering column for one that has the cruise control "controls" installed and then whether it would actualy work, or am I deluded? :-?

Omega General Help / Re: Intermittent water loss

It's done, it's fixed!!! Bought the new hbv from Vauxhall main dealer this morning, £40 with vat and fitted it this afternoon. It was a bit fiddly, but i think thats more to do with having big hands. The hose clips were a real pain to remove and refit and I found that using mole grips made the job easier. Long nosed pliers kept slipping off the clips when trying to compress them. All in all it took a tad over an hour and a half. No more disappearing water! ;D
Thanks to all those that posted suggestions and especialy Varche & Andy B for putting up with the stupid questions :y I would like to add that when I posted yesterday, I was looking at the wrong part :-[, not sure what that bit does, but i'm glad that i didn't remove it before consulting the "how to" guide and purchasing the right part.

Thanks again.

Evening all, right first, my appologies for not replying earlier, the bathroom took all sodding bank holiday weekend >:(. I've taken the various parts off the car to allow me access to what I believe to be the hbv this evening. It looks similar to the one in the "how to" guide but seems to be mounted at a different angle. Topped up the expansion bottle again and ran the engine until it reached its normal temp. switched on the blowers & aircon. water started to drip (very slowly) from what I would describe as a "sump" and 2 silver metal pipes that sit just in front of the engine bay/cabin wall. The water is cold, so would this be condensation from the fridge unit? Cant see any signs of water leaking from the hbv area :-/

Right, a plan of action has been made. Thanks for your help and advice, not forgetting to your mention patience :y. Got to admit, I was starting to feel quite negative about buying the old girl. I'll post the results once the hbv has been checked/replaced.
Going to turn in now, especialy as i've been informed by the boss that she wants the bathroom re-tiled tomorrow :(

Thinking about this, I turned the aircon on on thursday for the first time in probably a month and fiddled with the temp settings, starting with hi and then seeing how cold the system would go. The water loss was first noticed on Friday. Perhaps that was enough to finish the hbv off if it was already in a fragile state.

Varche, Is it going to be blatently obvious if the hbv is caput?
How does the hbv being broken/faulty cause the loss of water?
