Omega General Help / Re: Omega 2.5v6 tappet noise
« on: 17 December 2015, 12:27:21 »
Hi Guys

The ca is a November 2000 CD 2.5v6.  Done 133K, but in excellent condition.  Always serviced on the dot and anything that needs doing gets fixed quickly, although it has been superbly reliable.

Still running fine, and the noise has gone.  Doesn't use much oil at all.

My garage man (one man band) who I've been going to for over 35 years advises no need to use any oil additive.

The oil put in at the last change in July was 5w30 semi synthetic.

When I started it up this morning, there was a noticeable reduction in the 'clattery' noise but as before, was soon purring along as usual, but I will get some Wynn's valve lifter tomorrow.

Going into the garage next Tuesday just to make sure.

Had the oil and filter changed 2,000 miles ago.  Next service due in 3,000 miles.  I don't do a big mileage now (about 3K a year) and try to make sure it gets a good blast when I use it.

Hi all

Over the last couple of days, I've noticed a distinct 'clattery' noise on start up, but as the engine warms up the noise disappears. It appears to be coming from the nearside of the engine.

Is this the start of something major?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Speed/abs sensor
« on: 24 September 2015, 12:15:15 »
Hi All

I was driving on the A55 to North Wales in my 2.5v6 and the Traction Control and ABS warning lights came on, and the speedo sank to zero.  On the return trip everything worked fine.

The diagnostic check locally has shown that the rear offside sensor is faulty.  It is the one that fits in the diff, not the hub.
Has anyone got one by any chance ?
The only available one at the moment is a genuine GM part which has to come from Germany.
Look forward to hearing from you.

I went to auto's 7 years ago and wouldn't go back to a manual.  I've found my 2.5v6 an absolutely stonking motor - smooth, plenty of grunt when you need it, very comfortable and average 33+ on a long motorway run. You need a good service history, the more comprehensive the better, and the cam belt should have been changed at 80K and then every 40K.

Omega General Help / Bonnet release mechanism V6

Some fellow OOFers may have a solution to this problem.

When pulling the bonnet release lever, the catch does not release the bonnet except if a colleague is pressing down on the front of the bonnet at the same time, when the bonnet releases fine.

I suspect it is related to the cable tension.

Has anyone any idea how to sort this out please?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 4 beeps when switching off
« on: 20 September 2012, 10:52:33 »
Recently, when pulling up on the drive and switching the engine off, I am noticing that there are 4 beeps from the engine bay even when I'm not depressing any buttons on the key.  Any idea what this could be please? ???

Did a return trip from Derby to Carlisle yesterday.

During some very heavy rain storms, switched the lights on as you do and noticed that when I did that the trip computer display and climate control illumination both went out!  When I switched the lights off, they came back on, and everything seems to be working fine.

Any idea what this could be?

The only electrical item done in the last few weeks is fitting a replacement stop/tail bulb on the rear nearside.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Alarm going off!

Thanks for that Paddy.  Just locked the car as you suggested - no probs!

What sort of money are we looking at to fix the powersounder?  (just need a guide price. Now that I'm retired, have to budget!!!).

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alarm going off!
« on: 11 December 2011, 16:46:36 »
Had a new battery fitted to the car, but now have a new prob.  After locking the car on the fob everything is fine for about 12-18 hours, then the alarm goes off, usually in the small hours!

Is the problem to do with something in the alarm system?  Wouldn't have thought it could be the juice in the battery getting low since it's a new GM battery and the tell tale light is green.  Having the alternator checked tomorrow just to make sure it's working as it should and charging the battery up ok.

If it is something to do with the alarm (sensor??). Is it possible to diable the alarm but retain the central locking?

Look forward to your expert assistance as before.

Had a new battery fitted this morning!

As far as the abs ecu is concerned, the part numbers etc on the existing unit are: 09 127 952. Also DX 0265230427 if that's any help.
