Hi there,
this happened again on my 2.5V6 petrol Tourer.....I started the engine up from cold and the Eng Man light stayed on, so did the traction control light and also the seatbelt light came on and stayed on.
I had no computer feedback apart from a big 'F' on the display.......I had no rev counter, no fuel gauge, no temp gauge, no speedo (when moving), and no front elec windows...!!! whats going on as after a short time of driving like this i felt a sudden shudder and it all came back to life. This has happened since several times....and also i noticed a smell of burning oil type substance from under the bonnet until it all sorted itself out again.......Im worried i cant go far b4 it goes ape totally...!!!

Any ideas guys??

Hi Mine was similar to your prob and it was tensioner pulley wheel ...my advice dont run it until you get the front covers off and check the timing belt tensioner and pulley wheel or it can be a costly job if the belt slips off.
I got mine done by a local mobile mechanic for about £200 and it was on my drive too which i could view being done.

I live near derby so try a local mobile man if you can find one.

Omega General Help / Re: carb cleaner alternative????
« on: 01 November 2008, 14:03:50 »
Hi ,
spray carb cleaner is good as it gets in the nooks and crannies...but beware using it around rubber seals as it will degrade and perish the seals if not careful.
Its basically a cellulose thinners solution so dont get it near paintwork either.

Been told before by VX Dealer that if the light comes on and goes off again suddenly theres not too much to worry about as they do that sometimes........something to do with ecu self checking itself when the cars being given some stick and pushed beyond its normal driving limits.
Thats what they said anyway...!!
I know it wont record anything on the fault coding unless the lights stayed on for a few seconds.

Omega General Help / Re: Tracking problem
« on: 01 November 2008, 13:55:18 »
Hi There,
I had the same problem with my 2.5V6 tourer.
Both inners were chewing up like tyres were going out of fashion...!
I went to a tyre services near leicester forest east on the M1.
They were good they did 4 wheel alignment properly on their computer and hey presto it seemed to do the trick....18months later and no inner wear to speak of.
The guy knows about omega tyre wear and is a good place to go.
They are called Walker Tyre Services of Leicester.

Cheers

Hi there,
Omega rocker gasket leak is common.....and it leaks then into plug wells as I know too well.
It isnt an easy job but can be done successfully, but do get good quality gaskets not halfords jobs.
Go for dealer gaskets or at least Autovaux in wakefield for them as you will regret it if not as i found myself having to do them again in 2 months time.
Remember to take off the windscreen wiper scuttle to make the job easier.....and have patience as the stripdown takes a while.

hi...mine did the same......the adjusters can be done at the wheels however its a short term fix if mine was anything to go by....the cable may be stretched .
I had the cables replaced ...if i remember they cost about £26 from autovaux in wakefield.
It cost about 20 quid to fit by my local mobile mechanic.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega v6 shudder from under the car
« on: 11 October 2008, 22:41:30 »
thanks for the input guys....i will check those things you have all mentioned.
I was wondering myself if the propshaft could be the problem but cannot think how it can be misaligned to an extent of only showing itself in 2nd gear ????

Omega General Help / Omega v6 shudder from under the car
« on: 11 October 2008, 21:36:59 »
On my 2.5 Tourer i am getting a shudder during 2nd gear acceleration.....It seems to have started since i had a new clutch fitted.
It only seems to occur from around 2500rpm to 3000rpm in 2nd gear as i said but its noticeable through the drivers seat and also through the gearbox tunnel under the armrest area behind the driver. It really shakes bad if i give it some stick through the gears almost as though something knocks the floorpan.

Hi There,
The speedo /Rev counter binnacle is fixed solid...however something else i forgot to note was that when the power to the dash came back on the car made a shudder and seemed to loosen up as though something kicked in again and then all was ok....!!
This has happened twice in recent times and im concerned it may be something on its way out.

« on: 21 December 2007, 01:29:43 »
hi guys....my 97 Omega 2.5 has a very poor heat output in cabin.  I have changed the HBV and its still not getting above luke warm at best.
If i switch blower on anything above speed setting 2 then its even worse...in this weather its not cosy in the cabin.
There are no external water leaks anywhere and its not using coolant.
Any ideas?

Hi again,

Ive got a bee-sting aerial on the roof near the tailgate so it wont need a amplifier right??

So why is the MW/LW reception non existent?...is it the bee-sting aerial thats knackered??
