Omega General Help / Re: oops what did we miss???
« on: 30 December 2007, 16:22:01 »
HI
might be a long shot if you havent found it already, but you do need a neg on the motors to make em work just cos the switches are working dosnt mean you have a neg at the motor only means you have the 12v + from fuse 7 and as they are common linked might be worth checking as you have same issue on both rear. Also valid point about rear disable switch, if thats stuck open then nothing on rear will work but lights will still operate.
conections to motor on pre 2000 are ,1 is 12v+ straight from fuse 7, 2 is up, 3 is down and I think 6 is common with all window motors, being used as 12v all window closure from central locking. terminal 31 being ground.
hope it helps a bit

I should check which pipes you really are looking at.

With that level of contamination in a coolant line your header tank would be encrusted with emulsified oil.

Does the coolant header look badly contaminated?

Hi Mike..
Im sure its the HBV pipe that Im looking at..re the maintenance guide on the link earlier in this post thats deffo the guy Im working on..not too sure if the header tank was contaminated as there isnt and hasnt been any water in there since I parked it up a couple of weeks ago, do you think there is another problem or the head gasket really has gone?  Im willing to wait while you guys debate or if theres more info you need or pics I can get etc no problem, as time allows..theres no great rush car is off the road but taxed till May 08, so your help is appreciated.

hi guys thx for looking and replying again  :y
the pipe is the top one of two from the left hand side of the HBV .. this was the 1st 1 i took off, awkward to say the least, there is one pipe below it and another on the other side that seems to go to an ally unit on the off side wing..there are 2 pipes from this unit and the other 1 goes to the HBV as well if i remember correctly? anyway, do I need to get a new oil cooler or is a 2nd hand 1 ok , what sort of price am I looking at any idea pls ?
might be able to do it saturday if I can get the part and cleaner etc..thx again

Obviously havent flushed anything out yet but is it worth going further ?

Omega General Help / Omega needs head gasket replacement ?
« on: 26 December 2007, 10:10:35 »
hi guys :)
hope your all having a nice xmas...and Happy new Yr  ;D

noticed on one of the posts a comment,

"Not sure why you have the impression that the 2.5 is unreliable, they should be as robust at the 3.0.  Often an oil cooler failure is mis diagnosed as a head gasket failure: that could be why lots of people are after relacement engines. "

this opened my eyes a bit as i have a recently " dead"  :( 1995 2.5 v6 omega cdx sitting outside my flat, local garage put a tester on it and told me it needs head gasket replaced or new engine, £600 + or £1000 if all goes well...i was gutted..only bought her in may this yr and paid £1200 cos in nice condition, i was tempted to spend the £600 and get her back on the rd,but my woman convinced me to buy another car and sell omega on as scrap or spares, I've held out on selling my lovely omega for a month but dont know how much longer I can hold out, lol..the problem is who can you trust and is it really head gasket ? Help !!  ( guys Im driving a citroen est now, so you can see why I need help please )
