Is there sucking sound under hood(bonnet) of your car? 3.0 engine.
Thanks.
I was replacing valve cover gaskets and after I put everything back together noticed the sound. I don't know if it was there before. Engine runs fine, no codes. About 590-600 idle RPM, is it normal?

Omega General Help / Re: tyre sizes
« on: 14 November 2013, 23:42:07 »
Different (same size) tires have different height. I measured about 10mm difference between pavement and lower point of a rim.

Level ground, same pressures, same load rating??   Same degree of wear?  8)
Level ground, same pressure, don't know load rating and wear. Different new tires have different tread height.

It depends on breed of your neighbors dog. ;D

.. and an ECU fails so rarely it's not even worth considering. Mechanics suspect that when their (limited) diagnostic capabilities are exhausted because it's complicated and expensive. ::)
ECU failed in 02 Saturn 3.0, which is Omega engine, even ECU fits both cars. I used ECU from Catera. Random codes are sign of ECU problem or ECU ground.
BTW I replaced throttle body in the Saturn first, which didn't help.

Omega General Help / Re: What damage done?
« on: 09 November 2013, 01:13:42 »
I used to buy flood cars from insurance auctions. Damage depends on water level.
Most common:
One connecting rod is bent (if water went in), electrical problems. They are toys for experienced engine mechanic + electrical problems.
10K car can be bought for about 3K, not much money is needed for parts. Last flood car I bought about 4 years ago, it was 06 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I replaced connecting rod/rings and repaired minor front bumper cover damage. I enjoyed driving it for a few months. My wife loved it, it was stick shift with 265 HP engine.

I bought 3 replacement MAF sensors for Nissan Sentra, they are Bosch type, possibly like Omega sensors, they looked exactly like sensor for my Catera.
1. Used from ebay $35
2. New from ebay $20
3. Remanufactured from auto parts store. $139
Only one of them was good, guess which one?
One of bad ones made engine run rich (0.9V O2 sensor), another one lean (about .1V)

Start engine w/o timing belt cover and use stethoscope w/o stick to listen all pullies

Guess you don't need any advice from us then  ::)
Judy Garland has all the answers  :y
I do! My wife likes the Cadillac, so I'll fight it forever! I promised to fix cold blowing right side(US passenger side), I still don't know where blend motor is. You, guys, told me on right side. My service manual is not good.

I used engine oil so many times before, nothing to worry about for me. I pumped fluid out from steering tank (bottle) and poured 20W50 oil to right level. Concentration of oil/ATF is probably about 1/3. My wife said problem was gone. If leak shows up, I'll let you know.
I am pretty sure steering system will leak in about 5-10 years, so whoever was warning me about possible leaks was right. ;D
P.S. About using ATF to flush engines and clean lifters:
I successfully used atf in hundreds of cars and motorcycles. The only problem it can create is leaks from old hardened shrunk seals, which were covered by oil deposits. In the case I use "stop leak" fluid and in worst cases "stop smok"
Here is instructional video about using stop smoke:

Thanks!
I'll add engine oil, it always helped before, used it many times.

Omega General Help / Re: Burnt no 5 valve need help
« on: 30 October 2013, 15:44:40 »
If valve is bad, compression is usually 0.
Wet compression test should be done and I would flush engine by ATF to clean possibly stuck rings.
Mechanic cannot see anything if compression is 75. If valve is bent pretty bad, he would see it.
Usually all good exhaust valves have pitting.

Fluid doesn't leak, but looks dark.
Thanks.
