Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery being drained
« on: 13 February 2008, 20:16:29 »
Just thought I'd update you on the findings.

I had bought a new battery a month ago, as a first try, with no success.  The auto electrician has now been and identified the problem as the powersounder. His view is the battery in it is drawing continual high current and draining the battery.  It seemed to me this is something he has come across before as it didn't seem to be an unusual problem. He has disconected to powersounder and I'll see if that cures it.  If so I can either leave it disconnected or buy a new one.  Haven't decided yet, but suspect if thats cured it I'll just leave it.
Also got new header tank and sensor , so I now no longer get the annoying check coolent level message - harrah  ;D

Thanks for all your ideas.  really appreciated them  Thanks to you all.

Regards

Alan

Thanks for the feedback so far.  Tried trying to pull fuses to check where it may be, but didn't see any difference in the load.

It does have an after market CD player, but no screen or anything, it is a N reg omega, so I'm afraid there is no new ICE in it.

Still I have taken the 'check coolant' sensor offline as its driven me nuts over the last few months, while I wait for VX to deliver a new header tank -ordered today. Hopefully just bridging the wires wont cause any probs there.

I've also got to the limit of my electrical knowledge and have called in an auto-electrician.  I just need to make sure use the miggy every day so the battery does not go flat - which is not an issue as I love driving it  ;D.

I'll post what we find and what fixes the issue once we get to the bottom of it.

Thanks all.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Battery being drained

Have an issue with the battery being drained over a period of a couple of days.  Run the car every day, OK.  Leave it a few days - completely dead.

Put a multimeter on and its drawing 0.6amps, whilst switched off and unlocked (i.e. alarm not on).

As I have no idea on electrics, is such a draw on the battery normal for omega (I believe not, but thought I had better check). If not anyone got an idea on where to start.

First idea is to pull fuses to see when the drain stops which I'll do in a few minutes  - after that I'm coming to end end of my very limited knowledge and I'll have to contact an auto electrician, but thought I would check for any ideas first.

thanks

Alan

Yes, a genuine VX part was used.  Also checked the part numbers of the new one and the one taken off - both the same.

Don't think we caught anything, but I'll double check when I get back from work. I'm still not confident I read them right as it was rather late and as I had to leave at early this morning didn't have time to recheck.

The EML does not move between on & off before the car is started up and stays on until the car has run for a few hundred yards.  Then it moves from on to off at a fairly slow pace, like on for a minute of 2, off for a short while.

When turning on the ignition the EML light is lit up.

Thanks

Have changed the crank sensor.  The car now starts. Unfortunately I still have some problems and would appreciate any pointers.

EML stayed on after changing sensor.

Driving, EML turns off, turns on a few times, then, whilst off, car looses all power, effectly goes  into idle, you loose speed, then the eml comes on & car responds as normal (note I haven't driven it far so don't know if the car will keep repeating the above, but it does happen every time I drive it).  I assume its going into some 'limp home mode?' and then dropping out of that when the eml lights up.

did clip test late last night, I will try again tonight as I think I may have misread it, looks like (after the 3 12's) 144 and 145 which are not on the list.

Does the description above ring any bells on where I might look next?

Thanks

Alan

Omega General Help / Double check - Crank sensor?
« on: 08 June 2008, 14:35:43 »
Hi,

I have checked the forum and suspect I have the answer, but before I ask the local garage to get stuck in, just wanted to check.

Symptoms:

Car not starting - just turned over, eventually caught then

EML came on & at about 30, just as I was about to go over a level crossing, the car died - bloody 'ell that was not fun as the car turns into a 30mph brick!  :o :o

After an emergency pull over next to the crossing, the car would start then die if a) got down to 1000 rpm, 2) got up to 4000rpm.  Got it back home after a few more cut outs.

Therefore my assumption is crank sensor fubarred - would the symptoms be consistant with the assumption.

if so I'll tell the engineer to change it / the lead.

Thanks

I just Know I'm going to regret this but...

How do you get yours reving up to 4k?  I've had mine for a month and LOVE it, but it changes up at around 3 and I'm doing 55-60 at under 2k - when I overtake on a dual carrageway it just majestically powers up to illegal speeds, but I've never gone over 3k. (and when your last car was a fiat brava, beleive me that majestic is the right word)  ;D

This means 1) I'm a wimp driver or 2) err.. can't think of a 2..
does everyone run theirs in sports mode?

p.s. my wife now rolls her eyes whenever I keep mentioning how wonderful the car is  ;D

Hi everyone.

After my car was written off looked for a (really) cheap replacement and came across an  N reg omega 2.5 CDX auto.  After a drive I was taken by the car and lovely ride and drive it is so plumped for it.

Glad I have come across such a useful and well used forum and look forward to chatting in the future
