i dont know about the V6's but i know that my omega is the worst car in the world to work on, both my experience, and my uncle (and this is a man who has worked all his life on mercedes, volvo, and then when he went private, just about any mainstream car) his own words; "the worst car i have ever worked on"

however, the timing belt shouldnt have been too bad a job, even on the V6's. strange..l..

ah, thanks.
the connecting wire is missing off the sensor, as shown in that pic above, from what i could feel (couldnt see the unit, but im sure its the right one)
so i think you have answered my problem, thanks!

now i just have to find the wire that connects to it .......  :-/

i cant see or feel any, i will put it on the lift later on and see if i can find anything from below.

I think that you are talking about Secondary Air Injection. Look behind the engine. First photo is showing where you can find it in Omega Bay, and second how does it look like. It's Vectra to the engine is different position but it's the same engine.

i think you are right, i was looking at the SAI.

so how do i check that any sensors are connected properly? i couldnt see any in the pic.

BTW cheers guys  ;)

well, i couldnt find anything loose.

could it be the idle control valve, and the ecu throwing up a faulty code? i was looking at this, i took off the small breather pipe as per the guide, and there is no suction when the engine is running, so i assume that the jet is blocked, meaning that odds are that the idle valve is also blocked  :-/
i cleaned out the idle valve a month ago, but its probably blocked again>>>?

well according to the "instructions" that i got off the topbuzz website, the fault code indicates the EGR valve.

im not sure what the EGR valve is, but im assuming its the 3/4" pipe that has a conical thing on it, with rubber pipes on the end, this is all bolted to the exhaust manifold. Am i correct or not?

oh yeah, and this morning it stalled EVERY single set of lights. as soon as it settled to idle, it cut out. previously, it only stalled now and again.
however, it didnt stall at all when coming home  :-?

well i will look at it now, see if i can find anything loose  :y

sorry if its been covered before, i had a quick search but found nothing useful.

after the head gasket was done on my omega, the EML is on permenantly. i did the paperclip test and its the EGR valve, no other codes. before the HG was done, tho, the only fault was the MAF sensor, the EML was intermittent, and i never bothered touching it.
Thing is, when my uncle and i were doing the HG, it was my job to take off th exhaust manifold, and i had to bend the EGR stuff to get at the bolts. could it be that the pipe has cracked and is giving a bad code?

So whats the most logical course of action here?

Cheers

Well, after 3 weeks, the engine is back together and running.  :y

HOWEVER i then imediately started to replace a very knackered track-rod end, and as i was tightening it up again, the treads sheared on the other end of the track-rod  :'(

oh well, maybe tomorrow night it will be sorted (the part is coming in on order tomorrow) *hoping*

out of 8 weeks of ownership, its only been running for 2-3 of them...... ::)

hello, people!
i bought a '96 omega as a replacement for a '98 punto  ;)

well, it was stored for a year before i got it, and a lot was wrong with it. new crank sensor, new clutch (and the flywheel welded up and skimmed, dual-mass slack) new AFM, new rear spring, new trackrod end......
the list goes on!
the headgasket went last week, so its currently off the road (driving the punto again) while it gets skimmed.
So, the cost of repairs wasnt really worth the cost of the vehicle.

however, after it goes back on the road, i will be prepared to give it some love, it really is very nice to drive, and plenty power (could always use more tho!)

im still wondering whether to make it a long term car or not  :-/

It's always easier to do things like that when you don't own the car! lol

We've got an 07 plate VW Golf (just a baby 1.4) hire car at work, it's now done 8000 miles and is totally knackered. It had no power to start with, but now it's even more gutless. The exhaust is now blowing, the tyres are a bit worn (strangely more so on the back?), the handbrake isn't as tight as it was, it's filthy (both inside and out), did I mention that it's totally gutless?!  ;D

yeah, that just like my mate. who was given a (never driven) mini cooper S last week as a courtesy car (for a mini one lol!) he ragged it EVERYWHERE even from cold., theres no way i would ever consider an ex-courtesy car  ;)

true, pointless and tacky, but ive seen worse....

there was a dark blue omega with that looked like a sari for a back bumper  ;D
seen it the other day somewhere on the internet, forgotten now.
trouble was, the guy had went to great lengths and expense to do it in a unique way... it was really well done, but still GAY

True the rear treatment is different but gay? Surely you could find a better word.

yup, thats the one. i DO think that its unique, eyecatching, and well done, but inmy personal opinion, i think that it is fussy, and effeminate, and just not cool.
so, yes, gay.
