EGR valve 2.0 16v GLS
« on: 22 November 2007, 01:18:52 »

sorry if its been covered before, i had a quick search but found nothing useful.

after the head gasket was done on my omega, the EML is on permenantly. i did the paperclip test and its the EGR valve, no other codes. before the HG was done, tho, the only fault was the MAF sensor, the EML was intermittent, and i never bothered touching it.
Thing is, when my uncle and i were doing the HG, it was my job to take off th exhaust manifold, and i had to bend the EGR stuff to get at the bolts. could it be that the pipe has cracked and is giving a bad code?

So whats the most logical course of action here?

Cheers

Hi Matt,

I just wonder, if you are confusing the EGR (Exhaust gas recirc) with the SAI (Secondondary air injection)?

It's almost certainly going to be something not plugged in, following the work.

Have a look at the rear of the engine, at the passenger side. I bet you'll find a plug loose here - may not be obvious to spot at first  :y

well according to the "instructions" that i got off the topbuzz website, the fault code indicates the EGR valve.

im not sure what the EGR valve is, but im assuming its the 3/4" pipe that has a conical thing on it, with rubber pipes on the end, this is all bolted to the exhaust manifold. Am i correct or not?

oh yeah, and this morning it stalled EVERY single set of lights. as soon as it settled to idle, it cut out. previously, it only stalled now and again.
however, it didnt stall at all when coming home  :-?

well i will look at it now, see if i can find anything loose  :y

I think that you are talking about Secondary Air Injection. Look behind the engine. First photo is showing where you can find it in Omega Bay, and second how does it look like. It's Vectra to the engine is different position but it's the same engine.

well, i couldnt find anything loose.

could it be the idle control valve, and the ecu throwing up a faulty code? i was looking at this, i took off the small breather pipe as per the guide, and there is no suction when the engine is running, so i assume that the jet is blocked, meaning that odds are that the idle valve is also blocked  :-/
i cleaned out the idle valve a month ago, but its probably blocked again>>>?

There is a connecton at the back of EGD, behind the rubber hose. You can disconnect the hose and nothing will happen, but disconecting plug you will get an error message (checked today).
Your EGR might be blocked as well. The best way is to take it out ang clean it as it's hard to check it. I will try to find photos of mine and show you how to do it.

the connecting wire is missing off the sensor, as shown in that pic above, from what i could feel (couldnt see the unit, but im sure its the right one)
so i think you have answered my problem, thanks!

now i just have to find the wire that connects to it .......  :-/

i cant see or feel any, i will put it on the lift later on and see if i can find anything from below.
