Omega General Help / Re: Wheel Wobble . . .
« on: 09 January 2009, 09:03:17 »
MV6 you say, is it a prefacelift with 17" twin spoke irmscher wheels? If yes then vibration could be result of buckled wheels as those 17" twin spokes are very soft. Had loads of trouble with them myself.

Best to get the wheels balanced first as the others have suggested before assuming the worse  :-/

Omega General Help / Re: MPG
« on: 07 January 2009, 22:13:08 »
my 3.0 v6 auto can do 32 mpg at grandad speeds on the motorway, but stop start traffic and town driving gives more like 20-25 mpg. 80+ on the motorway yields about 27-28 mpg. Still I think thats acceptable for a 3.0 on petrol. I converted mine to LPG when prices tipped £1.20/Litre so mpg is no longer a major concern  :)

just a question for incase it doesnt work... how many miles has it done?

125,000 miles.

So is it a fact that these boxes die after such a low mileage. :o My last motor hit 200,000 and didn't show any signs of failing. Very poor  >:(

I don't think anyone is saying they can't do 200K, but the ATF just needs changing every 60K to get there. Much like the engine oil needs changing every 10K...

Also, 2.5 has a much weaker Autobox than the 3.0 and is therefore more sensitive to neglect fluid changes.

I think the paper clip test only applies to prefacelift cars. Pedal trick works on 2.6 and 3.2, but for 2.2 codes you need tech 2  :(

I had mine converted when petrol was at £1.20/Litre for £1700+VAT. the system was a BRC system fitted with an 80 Litre tank much like Entwood's. I calculated I would make my money back in a year (or 15K miles) or better if petrol kept increasing. Unfortunately petrol dropped like a stone since and now its going to take almost 3 years to break even  :( I'm not likely to keep the car another 3 years as I will want to change before then, so it was a bad decision. You need to consider how many miles you do a year and work out how long it will take you to break even and whether you will want to keep the car longer than that.

Omega General Help / Re: Vx main stealers.....
« on: 10 January 2009, 13:53:52 »
Main stealers really do take the pee with their prices. There's no justification for charging £44 for such a tiny bit of plastic. Is this part standard across the Vx range? I would go to the local scrappy and compare the one you've still got against Vectras/Astras. You may veen get lucky and find an Omega in scrappy...

Omega General Help / Re: More power from a 2.0

I always found the 2.0 to be underpowered in my girlfriend's calibra. Dread to think how sluggish it feels in a car weighing an extra 500Kg.

40% anti freeze in my screen wash but the washer jets still frooze yesterday. But then at -9 I would expect the jets to freeze.

Omega General Help / Re: Idle Speed in Extreme Cold

I saw -8ºC this morning - once started idling speed normal (600rpm)

Idle speed was fine for the first few miles of driving. The problem only seemed to occur after say 20 miles. It did it on the way home too when I saw -9  :o

Omega General Help / Idle Speed in Extreme Cold
« on: 06 January 2009, 08:43:02 »
I noticed last Winter when the temperature was below -5, the idle speed on my 3.0 V6 would drop from 600 to 500 and start to have a rough feel. The Temp was -8 on my way to work today and after about 30-40 mins of driving the idle speed went down. Hopefully days when the temp is less than minus -5 should be few and far between, but does anyone know if this is to be expected or is there a possible fault in my car?

Thank you for the response.  I had a local quick lube do a pump of the system and replace the atf at 80,000 miles.  It wasn't in poor condition but did need to be done.  The trany shifted beautifully for about three days than the 1st - 2nd bump came back.  Using the weather button seems to help but as I have been driving the car it is happening even when it is engaged.
Typically in the am the car backs up fine but has a wicked pause when put into drive.  Once the hard bump shift takes place it will then take off but struggles to shift from first to second.  Once second engages your off and running and she behaves just fine.  As I have delt with this for a couple weeks it does now feel like it is slipping a bit as it struggles to shift up.  Also as you first drive the surface roads it struggles to down shift from 1st - 2nd.  That behavior continues as you come off the motor way as well. :o

In reviewing your comments I will go by the Jiffy Lube to make sure it just doesn't need to be topped off after driving since the service of the atf.
I apologize for using the UK forum but the lot over here seem to be mostly nuggets and I have always been steered in the correct direction from the OOF. :y  GM buggered the car making it a Cadillac which adds its own nightmare as most dealers never supported the car in the short time it was sold here. ::) Parts are hard to come by although I am finding better sources and aftermarket performance upgrades are impossible to find.  Its a shame as they are a fantastic little car and a great sleeper in any trim.

I am still wondering about the solenoids and if I pull the pans should I replace all for to be proactive?

Cheers  [smiley=beer.gif]

Little  :o One of the biggest cars available in the UK  ;D

Certainly very nice to drive and can be reliabale. Touch wood; I've not had to do much to mine in the 2 years that I've owned it  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Which Omega
« on: 01 January 2009, 16:04:17 »
My preferred Omega is 3.0/3.2 Auto, because the Omega is a big heavy car esp. compared to say a MG. If you get a 2.0 version I think you would be disappointed in how it drives. All the 1.8 sports cars that I've driven near never struggle to keep up with my 3.0 Auto.

Omega General Help / How to Jump start with Omega
« on: 01 January 2009, 13:58:20 »
Happy New Year to All  :y

My new year didn't get off to a good start. One of my cars has a flat battery today. So I thought I'd use the Omega to give it a jump start, but I can't find the positive terminal. The negative terminal is exposed. There is a plastic thing over the positive terminal of the battery, which I unclipped but underneath that was an array of wires and fuses and I still couldn't see the terminal.

Plan B was to drive the Omega to the local motor factors and pick up a new battery. However, when realising it was closed I had no choice but to go to plan C which was to put the battery of the other car on charge. I'm just grateful the Omega's battery isn't flat. I've no idea how to change that   ::)
