Omega General Help / Re: Automatic transmission fault warning light

Mine does this every so often and I find that it does it on mine when I accelarate hard (especially in sports mode) then take my foot of accelerator so the gear change has a sudden jolt changing gear and then warning comes up and like you say you have to stop a restart car.
I never worried about it as its only in a blue moon it does it !!
I suppose I will when it dont go back to normal one day lol  :-/

Mine did it today.....after a good flogging in sports mode.....after pulling over in a rest area, switching the engine off then back on it was fine

The first time it happened I had just left work. I noticed a jolt then the warning message appeared. That was months ago though

Hopefully it wont happen again!

Omega General Help / Automatic transmission fault warning light
« on: 16 January 2008, 18:55:45 »
Hi there

Today I noticed the message 'Automatic transmission fault' on the display as I drove along.

To change gear you had to do it manually.

It did the same thing several months ago, once you switch the engine off and restart it, all is back to normal, ie full automatic transmission and warning message disappears

Is this common? Is it something to worry about????? :-[

Omega General Help / Re: Fumes inside car?
« on: 16 January 2008, 19:02:55 »
My power steering pump is leaking slightly....maybe you have the same problem?

After a good blast there is a nasty smell of fumes in the cabin and a bit of smoke from under the bonnet

Its not life threatening.......but VERY annoying

I'm an Aussie and I didnt know you could get Omegas in NZ

Was it imported privately or are/were they on general sale?

We dont have them in Oz as far as I know

generally speaking anything under a 3.8litre engine in Australia is only used as a starter motor for a Holden Commodore ;)

Omega General Help / Drivers side door mirror ...a question!!
« on: 13 January 2008, 14:42:48 »
Hi Folks,

As previously mentioned I had some idiot smash into my drivers door mirror with his passenger side door mirror, bending it the wrong way (towards the bonnet) and smashing the plastic mirror surround. Its still in place, all the electrics still work, but I want a new one.

As Vauxhall charge like a wounded bull for these things I'm looking at getting one off ebay

As these seem to be colour coded I cant find one to match my car! As I'm sure you are all aware its just like a 'cap' on the back of the mirror thats the same colour as the car.

My question is....are these 'caps' easily removable?

If so I can get any mirror and just replace whatever colour cap is already on it with my own.

It states my car is 'Silver' on my V5....but it looks a sort of light gold to me

cheers

Dave

Omega General Help / Drivers door mirror

Hi there

The other day some ar**hole bashed my drivers door mirror with his passenger door mirror as I was parked on the side of the road as he passed by.

The mirror glass is ok but the surround is smashed....as would have been the driver of the other car if he had stopped

Is this mirror easy to replace?

I used to have an Astra, that was a couple of bolts under the 'tweeter' speaker cover

Are Omegas the same?

If so does this cover just pop off???  It seems to be fixed on pretty solidly...........

Omega General Help / Exhausts
« on: 02 January 2008, 13:14:43 »
Hi there!

I recently had my tracking done and they put my Omega up on the hoist

Whilst it was up I had a look underneath and noticed my exhaust pipes were looking a bit battered and rusty.

I'm contemplating a big trip to Poland in a few months time and thought I might get 2 new exhausts before I go to save any dramas.

I thought about getting some 'aftermarket' ones, maybe stainless steel .....

Has anyone here ever bought any non standard 'performance' type pipes, if so where could I get a set??

Also would the twin pipe back box from the 3.0 litre fit right onto a standard 2.5 system??

Thanks [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Easiest way is to join Autobahnstormers.  The saving on your brakes will more then pay for the membership in one go.

What he said, think it may have gone up now to around £75 for the set, but you get discs and pads for that.

We also have a guide showing them being fitted to my car...

If you need an exhaust too, you can save almost £200 on trade!

Excellnt!!

many many thanks for all your help!

I suppose on thinking about it pattern parts are made to a pretty high standard these days........

I'll see how much money the wife will let me have  :y

I'm going to replace all 4 discs and pads, they should last for a few years hopefully

I nearly fell of my chair, pattern parts are made to a price, as is most stuff, but you are NOT saving money with pattern, they will not last as long or be as good.

Quite a few members here have pattern brakes, and they are appualing. fit GM!

With TC, i fitted brand new GM discs and pads to my 2.2 for £66, made a huge difference!

Thank you!!!

How can I get a trade card?????

Thanks mate....probably a good idea to use genuine parts

I might take out a second mortgage and let my local Vauxhall garage do the job

Do Vauxhall have a 'Rapid Fit' thing like Ford do????

Omega General Help / Vauxhall brakes / Discs versus pattern parts
« on: 02 January 2008, 13:22:26 »
Its about time for new discs/pads all round on my 1997 2.5 V6

Is it worth getting Vauxhall pads and discs or using 'pattern' parts?

Do the VX ones stop you any better or last longer?

I could probably fit them myself but frankly I really cant be bothered so I will let my local garage get dirty and cold.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Cam Belt pack
« on: 02 January 2008, 13:18:36 »
I'm thinking of getting my cambelt changed, its not quite due yet but I had one snap on a previous car........causing £500+ damage!

My local non Vauxhall garage say they cant do the job as it needs to have the camshafts locked with a special tool which they dont have

How much would I be looking at paying to have a franchised Vauxhall dealer carry the job out??

The car is a P reg 2.5 Lt V6

Thank you
