General Car Chat / Re: Code reader.....Will it work?.
« on: 16 November 2011, 20:49:00 »
I paid a bit more than that for mine - about £60 from 'mobile_ecu_remapping', but his prices have gone up quite a bit now: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUTEL-MAXISCAN-MS509-OBD2-ENGINE-FAULT-CODE-SCANNER-READER-TOOL-EOBD-MIL-LIGHT-/170707864020?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item27befb49d4#ht_2567wt_940

Thanks, Aaron. It might be worth paying the extra to make sure that I receive the genuine item. What does it cost to read the codes at a VX dealer. Any idea?... :y

Quoted £50 + VAT at my local stealers, but my local garage uses a generic one and only charged me £29.00 all in, just to read the codes, plus the cost of the repair parts. Thought £29 was reasonable actually,  :)
That makes me so cheap that I'm the OOF Slut ;D

Hmmmm...did wonder about the rumours that you were a bit of a pro!! :D :D :D :D

Hi all,
This may seem stupid to you, but its bugging me and swmbo ???
Comings back from Brackley last night we passed through a weird smell area which I can only describe as Iodine. Really stinks the car out. Have been through the same smell between Penn and Beaconsfield a few times, and down the A127 last Saturday when on my way to Essex Big Als place.
What IS this smell, anyone got any idea. :y Is it farm stuff? or what....really bugging us.

Brackley - Putrid smell - TB had a curry the night before. ;) ;D ;D

Surely in that case, it would be Methane, not Iodine, (unless someone put something extra in his curry??)   :D :D :D :D :D

12mm deep socket as well,  Fairly straightforward job, I did  mine last year, took me about 90 minutes, working carefully and slowly. (first time I had done them)
Helps to soak the manifold studs/bolts with plus-gas a couple of times the day/night before as they have a habit of seizing in place.

Should go fairly easily then. As mentioned, be careful with the wiring though. :y

My auto tractor returns about 25-27 around town, and 35-37 on a run, and has done since in the 4 years I've owned it. These figures seem about right according to the owners handbook, and considering mines covered 183K!! :y

Black shoe polish ;) The stuff that comes in a bottle with built in sponge applicator :y

Used it (2 coats) on my MFL and they were perfect for 2 years :y make sure you use a cloth to get the excess off though ::)

This works well, as does baby oil........which can also be applied to the pert breasts and curvy rump of your beloved wife/girlfriend. ;)

Which in my case means I will need a few gallons then... :D :D :D :o

Might be worth making this a sticky, in case there are some who don't visit the site for a day or so, and it slips down the page?? :y

PS, if you re-read your posts before posting, you wouldn't need the edit button... :P  ;D ;D

Omega General Help / Re: f/l estate locks
« on: 15 October 2011, 12:38:59 »
Might be worth going back and looking at the thread you started in the wanted section, as I have posted a reply on there regarding best option to sort this problem.. :y

Probably easier, and cheaper than replacing the whole cars locks as the boot lock on the saloon is not the same as an estate, as I found out when I needed to order parts from dealer. ;)

11
I know this might sound silly, but..try getting a replacement boot lock from a dealer.

This would probably be cheaper than a whole lock set, easier to replace, and far less hassle.
I had a similar problem with my estate tailgate lock, and went to my local dealer. He said that provided I had the car pass, he could get me a tailgate lock, cut to fit the existing key, for £35 + VAT, within 3 working days.

This was a whole lot easier than trying to swop ignition/door/boot locks, as well as faffing around with the immobiliser chips, etc....

When my new lock arrived, it was about 30 mins work to fit, and works a treat....

Might just be worth trying first, before going down the 'replace the whole lot' route. :y

You will learn alot about the car thats for sure :y

As to selling parts  ;D if you were to strip every part from a car you could be left with a hell of a lot of parts  :D
It all depends on what people are after at the time I suppose :)

Maybe an offer I can't refuse there Steve lad  ::) ;D :-*
