need to restore the black trim on my bumpers as they are starting to match the rest of the car which is silver, any advice on what to use ?

I havent tried yet but I was told bodyshops use a heat gun to bring the oil back out of the plastic which restores the colour. Needs gentle heating rather than a quick blast and make sure to protect the paint.

yes lasted for around a year before the fading started

Although I'm fairly convinced I'm going to have to run down and respray mine.  There are quite a few cracks and splits as well as tiny craters about the size of pin heads where it looks like the paint is crazing. I thought it would probably need a smear of filler before sanding down but I'm concerned that normal body filler won't cope with the flexibility of the surface and will just crack.

Has anyone got any experience of successfully respraying bumpers?

flexible/bumper filler i would of thought be best  never used it though

Bit of heat, then a good coating of Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel

Peanut butter.   

Lasts as long as anything expensive from a can or bottle - not very long.  WD40 stinks less.  As others have said, gentle heat first and it lasts much longer.

I used to use a cloth & a drop of engine oil. Looks good for a while

Used it (2 coats) on my MFL and they were perfect for 2 years make sure you use a cloth to get the excess off though

This works well, as does baby oil........which can also be applied to the pert breasts and curvy rump of your beloved wife/girlfriend.

Which in my case means I will need a few gallons then...
