Omega General Help / Re: Auto box playing up sometimes
« on: 24 August 2009, 22:21:57 »
Thanks Richard
How did you get the second-hand solenoid and are they all different, which would be 2-3 solenoid?
When I did the oil change it was only main sump and I topped up oil to filler plug hole this was only 3 litres?

Omega General Help / Re: Auto box playing up sometimes

Hi, My 1995 elite 2.5 diesel autobox 180.000miles Trans ECU GM96018114 Alpha BN.  Is also playing up sometimes , over-revving going up between 1-2 or 2-3 (as already described).  No flashing gear light, but I have transmission error code 41 on my Polish software tech2. Autotdata book on codes lists omega trans code 41 as possibly:- Gear selection- incorrect, Low fluid level, shift solenoid 1,2,3 TCM. (No TC on diesel omega)
I changed oil 2-3 years ago, but not the fliter (96015432 which is £71-88 inc.).  I have the idea, it a solenoid. On some journey I don't have any problems.  And others it gets in such a state, that it trys to put away in 3rd and the sport mode light won't come on.  Can be corrected normally by stopping ignition off & on then restart.
Any help please.

Omega General Help / Re: lack of power?? 2.0 ltr 16v

Check your exhaust output, if a smooth hiss and not puffing, also seems hot and would steam up a mirror, then there is a blockage.  This could be in cat or a silencer section.  Unbolt in front of cat or remove oxyen sensor to test, if improved, move down to test other section before replacing the cat.

yup, true.  may be an old code stored though.
Will the fault code self cancel in time, say thirty starts, or will it remain in for good, unless Tech2 is used to cancel.

Omega General Help / Climate Control Elite 1996 Fan not running
« on: 07 March 2008, 22:34:16 »
The heater fan stopped working intermittently and then finally died. The motor could be run directly by earthing brown wire, taking 20 amps full speed (30amp fuse No.33) so not a motor problem.
I thought it may be at Electronic Resister Pack at £130 and not a dealer stocked part.  Reading other Forums made me think that it may be the Climate Control unit, as there was no control voltage going to Res. Pack.
I bought a second-hand Climate Control unit and fitted it, but still no fan running.
Then I bought second-hand Resister Pack of a later car 1999, this unit had more cooling fins and I fitted it.  This did not work at first, until the Auto and Off buttons was pressed together to reset Climate Control.  Then the fan starts and climate control runs OK?
I read that if symbol ‘--‘ comes up when switching off engine, where the temperature reads, that there is a fault on the Climate Control. I getting  this sign.
Is there anyone with any ideas if this is true, and how to read the faults, is it a Tech2 job?

Omega General Help / Re: Blower Fan stopped working
« on: 12 February 2008, 22:08:06 »
My fan has stopped. It did try to power up on starting car a few times, but now nothing.

I checked the blue wire to brown wire feed wires, as from previous posting, nothing 0.1v.  Altering the fan speed 1 to 9 settings, gave no change in voltage. Brown feed wire to reg. is a good earth.

The voltage two wires to the motor is 12v both red & brown wires, so no controlled  earth from the speed regulator which is £128+vat p.n.90512510.  The fan seems free to move, goes to full speed when you bypass and add an earth to brown wire to motor.

I now think the electronic climate control ECC unit is faulty £600+vat?  I have remove PCB unit from back of  push buttons, can’t see any burning or dry solder joints. Control feeds from plug 8 & 18 ECC go to speed regulator & test OK. So do the red & brown plug 1 & 2 ECC measure 12v & earth.

I have had a problem for a number of years, with the car going cold after a hour drive and having to turn up the heat up a few degree, but not worth doing anything about it.

Has anyone replaced ECC unit or had one repaired.  The car is not worth spending £600 even though it is a 1995 Elite 2.5TD BMW engine.  My efforts at the breakers has not come up with anything yet.  Can anyone help put the old girl back on the road.
