Omega General Help / Temp Gauge Weird! + Feels held back!
« on: 09 April 2008, 12:55:45 »
Ok noticed something very strange yesterday with the running temp of the car and the performance seems to be held back.

Firstly I know we have had discussion re numbers on the temp gauge so if I say my gauge has four major lines 25% 50% 75% and Red = 100%.

When I bought the car generally it ran at between 25 - 50% and performance seemed fine.

Yesterday driving back from work on M25 noticed the car felt like it was holding back, felt I was really having to drive it and always on the accel having to push it on. Noticed that the Temp gauge was below the 25% line.
It had been cold so I had turned the Aircon up to 23, had warmed up and turned Aircon down to 21 and Temp Gauge went back up to just over 25% line. But still had the feeling the car didn't want to go as it would normally.

Not been as bad today on the same run.

Last night checked Coolant and no problems no cream deposits etc.

Hope above make sense to someone.

Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Thanks Kevin,

It does take a while to warm up and does run, even on Motorway, at around 80.

For the cost of a thermostat and fact will be doing coolant will be changed  anyway is worth doing to be safe.

Thanks again

Its not the cost of the stat that is the issue.   Wait till you learn where it is - clue do a search on 'b@stard bolt'

BTW Re the first two posts, facelift cars have lower figures on the scale (so I am told) - on pre facelift midpoint is c. 95, but I think <90 on post facelift, hence a bit of confusion.   Given that the engine/thermostat is the same on both I guess that shows how accurate the gauge is..

Well as I am having loads done, lots of preventative maintenance, as I love this car and want it to last, I am getting my neighbour who is a mechanic to do the work, unfortunately I have a lack of time to do it myself at the mo.

So I'll let him have the fun this time he he he  ;D ;D ;D

Is that cruel??

Not sure with the coolant but once I get my Trade Club card tomorrow I will be off to local VX to part with large sum of cash, coolant is on the growing list!

Rad looks fine and no visible signs of leaks etc

I just get jittery when I see the temp going high!

« on: 27 March 2008, 15:52:09 »
Just noticed whilst out that when the air con is switched off the temp rises. Got to 95 before I switched Air con back on and the temp fell back to where it normally sits at 82.5.

There is no visible signs of leaks and the header is full to the max line.

Can anyone give me some clues please?

Thanks in Advance

Ians,

Thanks for the link.

Think I will be off to the local vx parts dept to look at their pretty pics!

Really concerns me that the vx part is so much more expensive when others can offer it that cheap!

Does the assembly from VX come with more of the suspension config or is  it gold plated  ;)

£50 a pair from ebay  :y

Not sure why but I have a big problem, personally, with buying car parts from ebay!

Especially when the price is that much different from retail!

HI All,

I just been quoted £236.18 for the Wishbone assembly and that is each!

Richard

They used to be around £55 trade club price a few years ago, they went up the week after I got a pair :-)

They are MUCH more than that now.  Not sure if they are on TC or not.  I assume the £236 was retail.

Yep you assume correctly, that was retail inclusive of vat!

HI All,

Just fallen off my chair just phoned local vx parts dept for price on front wishbones, after having read comments etc and having judder under breaking though pertinent to change anyway.

I recall having read another post where price for wishbones was around £40ish mark..

I just been quoted £236.18 for the Wishbone assembly and that is each!

Is this correct or are they quoting me for everything suspension and I only need the wishbone plus bushes?

Anyone got specific part codes?

If it is that case it is better to do the lot then advise greatly received. Want to preserve my new found love as long as possible!

Thanks in Advance

Richard

Catching up and having read this post my suspension seems to be very stiff and gives quiet a bumpy ride.

Any suggestions? is this a sign of failed adjustable suspension (Mines an elite).

How can I tell if the compressor is running is it audible as cannot recall having heard anything like a compressor running after starting.

Thanks in Advance

Omega General Help / Re: Fitting Aux Belt Problems
« on: 18 March 2008, 10:27:15 »
Thanks kevin,

Again I might be missing something and I had thought of doing that but if I put the belt in that way it would rub on that pipe.. The pipe goes between the pulleys and it looks like the belt should go on the outside of the pipe!?

If that makes any sense.

Thanks Kevin,

I got that for the bracket on the aircon pipe running along the front and near to the tensioner pully. This pipe in the pic above is right hand side pulleys as you look from front of car!
