Omega General Help / Re: Front Pad Rattle ?
« on: 13 June 2008, 16:57:53 »
Solved :)

Strange but on both sides, the outside pad had the spring was missing!
When fitting the new pads, genuine Vauxhall ones,  one had a rubber film on the other just bare metal (like the one in the picture), otherwise looked the same, which one fits next to the piston?

One other thing the disc pad wear sensors, that clip into the pad, one seems very very loose, the other I broke trying to pry off the old disc pad! Are there different sizes?

Anyway need to go and get 2 more pad sensor wires and fit them.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help, its much appreciated :y

As I mentioned I first found the caliper slider seized, but after releasing that still  the  rattle, so if there isnt an antirattle spring, and some one says there should be,  what keeps the pad opposite the piston tight?
By the way yes the rattle does stop if I apply the brakes, and then comes back on after resleasing the brakes.

Hi Lizzie ,

The pad I think that is causing the rattle is the one on its own nearer the wheel, not the one in contact with the piston.

No I dont think they are worn too much.

Will have a good look over the weekend (again)
I did find one of the caliper guides seized but managed to free that OK, which at the time I thought I had found the fault, but still the rattle!!

Thanks for the photo.

I now its hard to describe noises, but I would have thought if the drop link was worn then it would have made a knoking noise, not the rattle type of noise I am getting.

I am almost sure it is the front pad loose,  As I said I was expecting a spring clip type of thing, I think they are called antirattle spring, but am told on this model they are not, so what is there to stop them from rattling?

Gettimg a rattle noise from around drivers side front wheel.  The only thing I can find loose at all is the front disc pad. There was nothing to stop it moving around and the noise did seem appropriate, however
I have v6 2.5 and am told there is no "antirattle spring" .

Has anyone had any similar experience and could suggest ideas to cure it.

Really noticable when travelling over rough roads.

Hi,

Some advise please.
Have my car serviced regularly by a local mechanic, and friend.

However, about 8 months ago, had severe misfiring. Oil in plug wells result from Rocker & Manifold Gasket leak. This caused failure in Coil, leads and plugs.
8 months later Rocker & Manifold Gasket set went again!!
Coil, leads and plugs all again.
Getting very expensive.

My thoughts is the breather system blocked, which caused first problem, not fixed and still blocked causing second problem.
Normal service should clean breather system, shouldnt it. It says so on the "Good Garage Scheme" checklist.

Guy, is genuine chap, but feel this may be down to him, grateful for any advise on how I should deal with this.:-
Challenge bill poor work,
Challenge first lot of parts used (faulty only lasted 8 months 7,000 miles),
Pay up and shut up (not his fault!)

As I say he is genuine helpful, honest ....and friend!!!

Puts me in a spot.  Help.......

Faulft Code 19 is described as Incorrect RPMSignal,  is that the same as Crank Sensor,?
If so what does it signify and what do I do about it?

Cheers

Omega General Help / How do you reset Fault Codes
« on: 24 March 2008, 11:51:24 »
Hi, thanks for all the info in how to read fault codes using paper clip. Read the codes and got 144  145  & 19.
How do I know when these were set?
Can I reset the codes and do a check a few days leter to see if they come back on.

Thanks for any help.
