Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: swap 2006 to a 2008
« on: 11 April 2010, 09:43:20 »
Having been very pleased to have a new Parrot fitted in my 2.6, I returned from a week in Amsterdam (working, not smoking!!) to a totally flat battery. The Parrot on my 2.2 switched off when you turned the ignition off, but the new kit the same company fitted is independent of the ignition and switches itself off when I walk away from the car. This worries me as it means that there is a possibility for a battery drain whilst the car is parked.

I am thinking of having the shop rewire the unit to work only on the ignition being on.

Any views?

I had a Parrot 3100 fitted in my 2.6CDX last week at a cost of £180. It is a full hands free unit and will sync phonebooks from two different mobiles. The unit on its own is around £90.

I had one in my other 2.2CD for 3 years and it worked perfectly.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Driving on the Right + Aircon
« on: 29 March 2010, 20:59:37 »
I am off to Holland to do a job for 4-6 weeks so am planning on taking my 2.6 CDX so I have wheels at the weekends.

Sounds a simple question, but what do I need to do to the headlights.  On my old Citroen C5 3.0L you just slapped on the Lucas black masking strips, but with Xeons and self leveling lights, I wondered if  the old ways worked, or if one needed some electric wizardry!!

I had my aircon checked out today by the firm who looked after my 2.2CD and the engineer said that my vent temperature was fluctuating.  It would cool to 7C and then gradually go up to 11c and then gradually back down to 7c.  he said the aircon was OK and had 750g of the 950g(ish) gas charge before he started.  There were no leaks so I assume that the temp control side might have a problem.  I had the climate control upgraded by Kevin Woods Tech2 last weekend and have done the Auto/Off trick to sync the blowers.

Anybody any ideas??

The question is Phil, are you sitting with a satisfied smile on your face and heat in the car, or is your matrix and engine sitting on the floor having disolved under the attack from scalding acid.

Elf and Safety will be scouring the countryside for shifty looking Omega owners clutching tins of orange sherbert!!

PS..  I shall be trying this at the weekend cos we don't have Elf & S in Peckham.

Omega General Help / Missfire on 2.6
« on: 11 April 2010, 09:54:58 »
I had a full service and plug change done about 10 days ago at Penfolds Lewisham and have done about 50 miles since the service.

Yesterday, I took the car out, and once it had warmed up, I felt a single missfire and after a minute or so a couple and over a period of the 20 minutes needed to get the car back home it became worse and worse.  Mostly at low revs but getting worse.  After about 15 minutes of this the EML came on.  I did the pedal test and got the codes 0300 and 0305.  There was also a 1613 code which I think was caused by a faulty transponder in the spare key I was given when I bought the car and the key has since been reprogrammed.

Plan of action is first to replace the plug in pot 5 (will probably do all 3 just in case!) and if fault continues, replace the coil pack.

One question I have is "does the EML on the dashboard reset itself when it finds the problem solved"?

Secondly, does the above plan seem OK as I know nothing yet about maintaining a V6.

Thanks all.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 Oil Pressure Sensor

Well, the list got a lot shorter when I went to pick up the car from the garage. I pointed out that a 9 year old car was not exactly brand new, and the Penfolds wish list was really designed to return the car to "as new" condition.

When I bought the car from Simon, I got the old servicing bills and it was interesting to match up the stored codes in Tech2 to items in the invoices.

The "probably needs a cam belt change" seemed to fade away when I said I had the main dealer invoice for one last year and 10k miles ago.  Think I might pass on the £600 cam belt change quote.

I had a new Parrot hands free kit fitted to keep me the right side of the law, so now I am good to go.

The autobox gear changes are a lot smoother since Kevin upgraded the software last week, so, touch wood, all is well with the world.

My dad was a motor mechanic before the war  and taught me the bits I needed to know on my first car which was a 948cc Triumph Herald.  Swing the bonnet forward and sit on the front wheel whilst doing the tappets!  Them wos the days!! and beer was 1 shilling and 4 pence a pint.  Oh Happy Bloody Days.  We all used to carry a pair of ladies tights in the glove locker in case the fan belt went. That was our story anyway, and I am sticking to it!!!

Now the engine bay is full of pipe work and far too many electronic processors for comfort. Watching Kevin Wood play the Tech2 was a revelation, but one had the sneaking thought in the back of ones mind " how many garages actually have one at £2k a pop"

Omega General Help / 2.6 Oil Pressure Sensor
« on: 27 March 2010, 19:05:19 »
Having taken my new 2.6CDX I bought from Simon to Penfolds for its annual service and plug change, the  helpful guys on the service desk gave me a list as long as my arm on "things that need doing" which amounted to more than the car cost!!  I knew that the disks at the front were pitted as it was an advisory on the MOT and I had ordered new disks and pads at £72 to be delivered Monday so I can fit them when we have a nice sunny day. I was not quite sure how the brake quote for the front got to £425 but it should take me 45 minutes per side, or at least that was how long it took me the last time!!

They said my oil pressure sensor had a "slight" leak (£180) and Kevin Wood says he thinks it is down by the crank pulley. Has anybody replaced theirs on a 2.6 V6 petrol and can advise me how to do it??

Before folks get agitated about my taking the car to a Main Dealer for a service, the car had a full Main Dealer service history when I bought it from Simon and I wanted the plugs done and a stamp in the book to keep the service history current.  I do not have the time at present to learn how to service a V6 which is a somewhat different box of tricks from my other 2.2CD "four pot"

I have a 2001 2.2CD in which I have been freezing my balls off for the past three months.  My aircon works perfectly and gets very cold (too cold!!) I get no heat at all from any vent even on Hi with the climate control. Temp guage shows water temp to be normal at all times (90 degrees?)

Have flushed system and replaced anti-freeze and replaced external air temp sensor.. When I first noticed the lack of heat (Nov) I found that if I took revs up to 6k for a minute, I got warm air until I switched off, then back to cold.

Have bought new HBV to install but cannot find any post which indicates where HBV is to be located on 2.2 Omega.  Also, where is the thermostat to be found?  Life was earier with my first Triumph Herald. None of this hi-tec computery business!!

Found mine on facelift 2001 2.2 CD.  If you look down you will see where you fill the wash bottle up. To the left of the filler tube is a black elongated tank which holds the wash water and which has TWO separate electric units attached.  One is the washer water pump and the other is appears to be the heater for the washer water. If you reach down underneath the washer tank you will feel a small round unit with two leads.  If you lever it gently away from you it will pop out of its hole, and that is the exterior temp sensor. If you unplug the sensor from the cable, your dash display for exterior temp will just show a couple of dashes. Plug it back in and it should change the display to a temperature reading. No reading means the unit needs replacing. About £5 I am told.

I have a 2001 "Y" 2.2 CD and I am having problems post the snow with my heating.  System flushed OK and get heat sometimes but other times only cold.

Where exactly is the outside temp sensor located?  I have heard "somewhere near the nearside fog light" but that kind of sounds like a guess and not someone who could actually point to it!!
