Cabin fan/Outside temp sensor
« on: 01 March 2010, 22:08:31 »

Ok, I have again had the loss of heat into the cabin today however this time with the fans locked on almost full. I pulled over and reset fans which appeared to work, however it was the same again after being parked up.

I reset them again and drove about 10 miles and it was ok, but as I clicked throught the trip computer I noticed the outside temp was blank. I tried to reset this and it was still blank. After stopping for fuel it remained the same. Could this be related???

Why do my cabin heater keep blowing cold but is easy to reset???

Any clues anyone?

I have heard the AC doesn't kick in below a certain external temperature so that seems to link the external sensor and operation of CC somehow. I could be wrong though.
If the extenral temp sensor is knackered, it therefore might interfere with the otherwise correct operation of the cabin temperature controls.
Need someone to confirm thought but I can see a reasonably deduced link between the two.

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

The two are separate on PREface lift cars, but the outside sensor does have a bearing on cabin temp on facelift cars.  :y

Ok, well after a couple of days of driving Ive come to the conclusion that my interior climate is affected by the exterior temp sensor because when the ex sensor dont work the interior goes scatty and when it does work the interior is fine. So looks like I need a new exterior sensor.  ::)

I have a 2001 "Y" 2.2 CD and I am having problems post the snow with my heating.  System flushed OK and get heat sometimes but other times only cold.

Where exactly is the outside temp sensor located?  I have heard "somewhere near the nearside fog light" but that kind of sounds like a guess and not someone who could actually point to it!!

Yours is a facelift car, so it's right in the middle of the bumper quite obvious when you open your bonnet & look down.
The "somewhere near the nearside fog light" would be obvious too if you had a PREfacelift car ..... it would be the only thing fastened to your bumper in that vicinity.  :y

I can't point to it ..... I'm not there!  ;)  ;)

I'm sure you manage to squeeze another job in.  ::) It'll only take you a few minutes to chnage the temp sensor.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Facelift, yes. Pre-facelift, passenger side behind bumper

I said ... look down!  ;)  ;)  ;) Later cars still have the sensor attched to the bumper, but it's in the middle, not at the side like on a earlier car.  :y :y
Bumper can stay put!  ;)
