You will need to bypass the BOSE system completely and rewire accordingly.

Its exceptionally well documented if you look back through some of the old threads on this forum.

 :y

I had the same problem when installing a jvc head unit to a pre facelift omega.  What prevents the speakers from working when a new head unit is installed?

Only asking, cos I may attemp to install the same JVC unit into my facelift omega.  In a Vectra I owned, the JVC head unit sounded fantastic, compared to the origional head unit - this was using the origional speakers as well. :y

The two major issues are

1) The input levels of the BOSE amp are non standard, and trying to connect RCA or speaker outputs from your head unit will not provide good results.

2) BOSE speakers are 2 Ohm, so even after you have bypassed the amp because you cant get it to work properly, the head unit will see the 2 Ohm speakers (UK aftermarket uses 4 Ohms impedance) as a short circuit - if you have a good head unit it may cause the prtection circuit to kick in and shut down teh audio, but in 75% of connections it will cause the head unit internals to literally go BANG !

 ;)

I am almost certain the pre-facelift omega I tried to install the JVC head unit to - did'nt have bose speakers...just the standard ones.

However, I still could get no sound from the speakers, using the existing speaker wires. ;)

What model radio?

ccrt700 with built in phone? They seem fairly prone to that type of fault

I can't check at the moment, the cars layed up at my dads house - i'm changing the oil cooler

The radio has not got a built in phone though.  It has a 4 disc changer.
cheers :y

That only applies to aftermarket radios - don`t worry about it.

The Ign and permanent feed are swapped over in Vauxhalls from the layout that has come to be accepted as ISO standard. Hence the change if you have an aftermarket stereo.

Right thanks, fully understand now.

Is your radio the original one, or an aftermarket one?

If it's an aftermarket one, you'll need to join the red and yellow wires together on the iso wiring harness

Its the origional stereo.

What are the red and yellow wires for?

Thanks Dave.

I will find the model number tommorow, as the car is not at my house at the moment.

Very helpful though.

Can the worn ignition switch cause any major issues if it turns out to be this?. :y

Hi

Often, if i have my radio on with the ignition off, and then start the car up, with the radio still on - it loses it's preset channel as though the battery has been disconnected..

Has anyone else had this problem or know what the cause is?.

Thanks

What is the standard head unitin yours?
I have a ccr2006 in mine without Bose.
And this same unit comes with the Bose setup

I can't check at thr moment, but my head unit has a 4 disc changer built in and I have controls on the steering wheel.

So you say this is no different to the bose head unit other than the bose logo?

. If you want big bang bass then go to motorworld etc, but i reckon Bose have enough volume & a certain quality sound.. :y

I'm not after a massive bass, I would just like nice crisp, crystal clear sound quality.

I think the standard head unit in the cdx is crap quality.  Dont know if it's speakers or the head unit, or both.  It is about the same crap quality as my last pre facelift omega's stereo was.

Is the bose noticable better?  Thanks for the replies so far :y

How the problem was solved the last time this happened?
Actually do you know what caused the problem?

Last time I just put the origional stereo back in.  I could'nt understand why there was no sound.   I have never used the JVC stereo since, so maybe there was a problem with that.then. ;)

Thanks mate.

Is there something built in to the existing wiring that prevents aftermarket head units being used with existing speakers?.

On my last omega, I wired in an aftermarket (JVC) head unit and used the existing wires for the speakers - however, there was no sound from the speakers.

I had the same unit in my vectra, previous to that and had no problems using existing speaker wires.

Thanks mate.  I know bose are supposed to be decent stuff, but just don't want a lot of work for minimal difference... ;)

Hi all

I'm thinkin of upgrading the sound system to bose...just a few questions before I do.  Thanks

Is there a huge difference in sound quality?

Would I see any benefit from just changing the speakers?

Is the bose head unit a superier quality, or just the speakers and amp?

And finaly, is it an easy job?

Cheers Rob :y
