Hi all

I'm thinkin of upgrading the sound system to bose...just a few questions before I do.  Thanks

Is there a huge difference in sound quality?

Would I see any benefit from just changing the speakers?

Is the bose head unit a superier quality, or just the speakers and amp?

And finaly, is it an easy job?

Hi Rob,
well, you`ll have to strip down door panels and install the amp under rear shelf which is a pain if you use your boot a lot- you`d lose around 3inches from the top (i couldn`t get two 18 alloys in because of the casing) but on the other hand, if using base on high setting, you can feel the vibe  
Also, when changing solenoids in my prefacelift, i noticed that the speakers were not Bose at all, and the other elite we broke had infinity units in  :-/
I`m sure one of the [size=9]geeks[/size] guys on here will give you a technical pros and cons answer

Thanks mate.  I know bose are supposed to be decent stuff, but just don't want a lot of work for minimal difference...

Forget the Bose.
It's a complicated job to do.
Sound quality is better  (bass only).
Components for Bose are simply too old.
Spend the money on higher quality new speakers, amplifier and aftermarket head unit and it will sound much better than Bose, and probably last much longer than old components of the Bose system.

Is there something built in to the existing wiring that prevents aftermarket head units being used with existing speakers?.

On my last omega, I wired in an aftermarket (JVC) head unit and used the existing wires for the speakers - however, there was no sound from the speakers.

I had the same unit in my vectra, previous to that and had no problems using existing speaker wires.

Last time I just put the origional stereo back in.  I could'nt understand why there was no sound.   I have never used the JVC stereo since, so maybe there was a problem with that.then.

I personally rate the Bose for a Mig. You retain your display & dash & they can take full volume without distorting so the head unit, amp & speakers are set up to work together. If you want big bang bass then go to motorworld etc, but i reckon Bose have enough volume & a certain quality sound. You have to change everything but Markey Mark fitted a complete system into the Beastie from a CDX or Elite?? & i'm more than happy with it.

I fitted my BOSE and left out the shelf that carries the amp, to save the 4" then fitted the amp behind my sat nav reader
I must say I think the BOSE system sounds well especially in the saloon

I'm not after a massive bass, I would just like nice crisp, crystal clear sound quality.

I think the standard head unit in the cdx is crap quality.  Dont know if it's speakers or the head unit, or both.  It is about the same crap quality as my last pre facelift omega's stereo was.

Also one other thing.
For 20 pounds you have steering wheel adaptors for the controls on the wheel.
The only thing you loose is one line on the display which reads the cd track number and number of cd.
Don't get me wrong...
Bose was goodBUT it was good when it was brand new.
Now its just overrun by time and techology

I can't check at thr moment, but my head unit has a 4 disc changer built in and I have controls on the steering wheel.

So you say this is no different to the bose head unit other than the bose logo?

It's the same unit used in Bose setup.
That's a CCR2006.

The only difference is that's the unit in Bose is "Bose enabled"
Just some tinckering with tech2 on the unit
