Omega General Help / Re: Oh dear... I broke down....
« on: 01 February 2009, 16:08:19 »
took the plenum off the car, and have taken off the scuttle tray.

Foud the problem to be a rather large split in the hose, right at the back of the engine, it has a twist in it and connects to the hbv (i think) and goes to the engine block.

Had to remove remove the unit with the injectors on to get to it. It was a complete pain the ar$e. but managed to get it off.

Halfords don't do the pipe, so i'm guessing it's a vauxhall only one...

Oh well, i'm leaving it for the rest of the week, until i put it back together and hopefully get a replacement pipe.

Omega General Help / Oh dear... I broke down....
« on: 31 January 2009, 15:43:00 »
Driving along the A414 today, and i had the sports button on and went to overtake. Can went up to 6.5k revs and then i slowed down.

Noticed "lots" of smoke from the rear of the car.. But was more white than blue..

Pulled over as soon as i could and saw the temperature gauge go up to the 95-100 mark.. Once i turned the engine off lots of steam from arond the engine bay. Popped the lid and water was everywhere.

Let the car cool down, and then checked coolant level - empty.

Couldn't see any hoses off, so started the car breifly to see if there was any white smoke from exhaust - all clear - along with the oil.

poured some coolant in, and it just pours out the underneath of the car from the back of the engine somewhere fairly central - so guessing i've popped a pipe somewhere..

Any idea's where this water pipe is? and how to get to it?

Many thanks

Craig.

Omega General Help / interior noise.. sounds like whining fan?
« on: 08 January 2009, 20:51:32 »
Just wondering if anyone would know what this problem is or how i can fix it?

When i get into the car and start it up, after about 10 seconds there's a whining noise as the climate control starts to work. It's like there's a fan struggling behind the dash. It goes away after aout 10 minutes, but it's just annoying me now.

Many thanks

Craig,

Omega General Help / Oil Leak (with pics)
« on: 04 January 2009, 15:13:53 »
Well i've changed the cam cover gaskets but i still have a leak, and can see oil on the sump. So i used some degreasent around the area and left to idle to see if it drips but nothing.
Took it for a spin around the block and noticed some more oil - so it only does it under load.

Here's the pics...

As you can see it looks like it's coming from the sensor (or whatever that is?)

Any idea's how to fix it?

Thanks

Craig.

I've checked the cam seals and all fine. Also applied the correct sealent. Checked oil sender and that also looks fine. Doesn't leak on just idle, only when being driven. Any instructions how to do crank seal?

Omega General Help / Oil leak, pulley?
« on: 15 December 2008, 06:52:24 »
After changing my cam cover gaskets on the 96 v6 2.5 I have, I still notice oil collecting on the sump. The only place I can think of is it's coming from one of the pulley seals. Anyone know how hard it is to change these? I think the one that's leaking is the larger lower center pulley?

Thanks

Craig

Omega General Help / Autobox problems?
« on: 12 December 2008, 22:22:03 »
After fixing the missfire i had with the new omega (spark plug lead on passenger back was split) i took the car out for a spin - stuck on the sports mode and thought i'd see if the cars got any power at all.
I noticed it seemed ok, but on one instance the rev's went flying up, but the car didn't seem to move - it was if the clutch hadn't engaged?
Any ideas?
The car's a 1996 cdx 2.5 V6 - i only paid £500 for it, as i needed a run around as my ultima's in the garage.

There's a lot of oil around the sump - where's the autobox dipstick?, does it have one? - i most certainly would like to check that!

Thanks

Craig.

A set of ignition leads for a 2.5v6 1996 omega & a breather unit (black cover on top of plenum) that's not blocked?

Many thanks

Craig.

Omega General Help / Hot and Lumpy.
« on: 01 December 2008, 22:11:08 »
Not talking about my wife, but my 2.5 v6 auto 1996.

Car seems ok on startup when cold, but when it starts to heat up it gets all lumpy on tickover and hates pulling the car under 2.5k revs (always seems to want to kick down)

I've changed the cam cover gaskets, and the drivers side bank of plugs, cleaned and wd40'd the ICV, checked the connections and cleaned the breathers (althought one of the smaller pipes is still kind of blocked - tried all sorts to clear it)

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Engine Error codes - 2.5v6 Auto 1996
« on: 22 November 2008, 12:39:56 »
Well decided to do a paperclip test as mentioned, and found i've got more flashing lights than london.

12, - Can't find this code listed?
31, No engine RPM Signal - Engine off so prob ok
57, Idle Air control voltage low ?
145, Immobiliser wrong signal ?

Not sure any of these relate to the juddering i'm having under 2.5k rpm, but how can i fix them?
