No the car was ok but had loss of power when accelerating after the engine was warm and the car would kangaroo, that is when we discovered oil on the plugs. There are no codes given on paperclip test. There is the smell of fuel.

« on: 16 October 2009, 21:41:56 »
Hi all, please please help!! Over the last 2 days?? we have changed the cam cover gaskets as there was oil on the plugs. All is back together but engine running very lumpy and nigh on impossible to drive. Any ideas? What could be the cause? Is there anyone near us that could come and listen/look this weekend as this is our only means of transport if not the car has got to go as a complete car ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated :'( :'( :y

Thanks all, the screw on the side of ours did have resin in it but we thought it was a bodge job by previous owner so cleaned it out. Would like conformation if there should be a gap or not :-/.
Many thanks.

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 ICV setting.
« on: 06 October 2009, 17:13:26 »
Hi all, can anyone tell me if the icv valve bit inside the chamber should be easy to move when off the car. When taken off the car it was open slightly although the engine was hot. We have a hot running problem still so we are cleaning icv again. what is the adjuster screw on the outside there for if it is supposed to be set at a certain gap. I thought I read on the forum somewhere that the valve should be shut when engine is warm. :-/
thanks in advance :y

The last paperclip test I did, I got 12 and 31 ignition on and just 12 with engine running which suggest no faults to me.

It's a genuine sensor but I didn't re-route.
However, I did the paperclip test after I got the juddering and I got 12 and 31 with ignition on, and just 12 with engine running.
When the old non-genuine sensor was on the car, I got 19,73 and 74.
Could it be a dodgy alternator or a bad earth? Where are the earth points located?
Would the erratic rev counter be anything to do with this?

Omega General Help / Hot running problem
« on: 29 September 2009, 17:50:01 »
Hi everyone, I need your help. When my '97 2.5 v6 estate starts it runs fine but when it gets up to around 90 temp, (after around 20 mins driving) it starts to kangaroo and dies. I have also noticed that the temp guage then drops to 0 and the rev counter jumps up and down. Then engine will restart after cooling  but I am afraid to drive for any distance. I have changed cam and crank sensors, new HT leads. The codes from paper clip test are 12 and 31 when off and 12,12,12 etc when running.
Any ideas as I want to drive the bloody thing.
Many thanks :y

Hi Guys, I have tried the paper clip test and the codes are now 19,73 and 74. Bloody RAC my cancellation of membership is in the post haha. Firstly I think the crankshaft sensor has to go. I replaced the MAF, it is either a dud or wiring problem. Here we go again. Thanks all for your advice so far. :)

Omega General Help / Classic Omega problem, please help!
« on: 19 September 2009, 18:29:00 »
Hi all. I am a woman in distress, I am in Devon. No that is not the problem, the problem is my '97 Omega estate 2.5 v6. It is unwell. It has the common problem of dying once the engine is hot. It restarts after the engine has cooled, but prior to stalling the temp guage drops to 0 and the rev counter bounces all over the place. The engine will restart once cold. The previous owner changed the crank and cam sensors, the HT  leads. The RAC plugged it in and the fault code was 31. Any ideas!!! I dearly want to drive the car for more than 10 minutes. I await your help with great anticipation. ;)

I have just registered on this site. I have found your site very useful from the outside! I have a '97 2.5 v6 estate that is sick. It has the classic problem of when hot it kangaroos and cuts out. Prior to this happening the temp guage drops to 0 and the rev counter flips all over the place. If you allow the engine to cool it will start as normal. The coil pack, cam sensor, crank sensor have all bee replaced by previous owner. The RAC have plugged it in and the fault code is 31. Any ideas, a woman in distress!!!! :'(

Hi, do you have set of HT leads for a 2.5 v6? If so how much to Devon.
