2.5 V6 RUNNING LUMPY
« on: 16 October 2009, 21:41:56 »

Hi all, please please help!! Over the last 2 days?? we have changed the cam cover gaskets as there was oil on the plugs. All is back together but engine running very lumpy and nigh on impossible to drive. Any ideas? What could be the cause? Is there anyone near us that could come and listen/look this weekend as this is our only means of transport if not the car has got to go as a complete car ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated :'( :'( :y

First thing to check and the most common mistake is the order of the plug leads on the 2-4-6 bank.

they should be

5-3-1
o-o-o
o-o-o
2-6-4

Was the car running like this before you did the Cam Cover Gaskets?

No the car was ok but had loss of power when accelerating after the engine was warm and the car would kangaroo, that is when we discovered oil on the plugs. There are no codes given on paperclip test. There is the smell of fuel.

It's probably either the plug leads on wrong as MarkDTM suggested or the leads got damaged by being soaked in oil from the leaking covers and pulling them off has made 1 or more fail totally.

So, first check they are connected in the correct order, then check each one for damage. They are a bit of a pig to change and darned expensive !!!

I would check that No 6 (rear right) plug lead is connected to the dispack properly.
