Omega General Help / Re: Lack of power
« on: 21 February 2010, 12:07:06 »

My omega seems to be lacking power around 2000rpm to 4000rpm.  It is very noticable because the acceleration is very sluggish then starts to pick up when revs get to around 4000rpm.
Not sure if it will be something mechanical or wherther a good service should sort the problem?.  Also thought about getting some of those additives you can get to add to the fuel which apparently cleans the injectors etc, anyone recommend a good brand?
Cuss

Check that spark plugs are not flooded with oil - fairly common problem, if they are you will need to replace rocker cover gasket(s).

Omega General Help / Re: Mileometer

has stuck at 99,999.... some say this might be a good thing but in the end I am going to have to do something as the mileage is on the MOT now and going to look silly if it has done no miles in 12 months!

Any idea how to fix this ??

They are electric these days, most likely the motor is gone - replace it, they are around £20 at breakers, or I have one in E.London if it is closer...

Omega General Help / Re: manifold...v6

my car is missing and running poor also exhaust is noisy...have changed one cat and had the other cut out and repiped...seems to be a manifold problem(possibly cracked)...anybody want to change it for cash...don't trust my local garages and would prefer someone off here who knows these motors

Why do you suspect (air intake) manifold? Can you smell petrol when the engine is running? If not, I do not understand why you suspect it.

Noisy exhaust is usually caused by holes in exhaust pipes, if the hole is between the engine and O2 sensor it may cause poor engine running. I would try to locate and fix the cause of exhaust noise first, it may fix all problems at once...

I have a 98 2.5V6 CD and want to fit cruise control. Searched and it seems possible but how much of a pain is it to fit? Are there any how to guides here? Will it be expensive?

Cheers

I have a complete 99 2.5 V6 CD(x) in E.London for braking (failed engine), so if you do not mind some disassembly you can pick all the parts you need...

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel bearings

cheers for the reply, the cheaper ones are made by QH. the price is so much of a difference, i think i'm going to try them, at least if it turns out to be something other than the bearings gone thats the problem, i haven't lost £300.

My car drags me all over the place with the slightest camber in the road, at first i thought wishbones, but when i jacked it up to check, i found i can wobble my wheel quite severely!

If wobbly wheels is the cause of your concern I do not think that it can be caused by faulty bearings, for the wheel to start to wobble on the bearing it (the bearing) has to be nearly completely destroyed. When the bearing is about to go you will start hearing noises while driving, the noise will be stronger when turning at speed.
I would check other possibles first...

Omega General Help / Re: cam belt change

Hi there,
I live in the Ashfield area of Notts, can any of you guys recommend a good place to get my belt and any other  requiired bits changed on my 2.5 v6 Elite. Also got a weep on one of the rear shockers (self adjusting) anyone know the best price for a pair of these?
Many thanks
Philipb

If both the distance and the price conspire against you, you can always do it yourself. It is not that difficult, the belt was around £40 and the tensioner £70 (it was few years ago, so I do not remember prices). Some suggest changing water pump, I personally do not see why and if I am not mistaken it is electric and does not run of the belt anyway.

Omega General Help / Re: No Speedo, ABS, TC or Crusie Control

Hi I’m a new member and I just bought a 1998 Omega GL 2.5 Estate.

I got it really cheap because neither the speedo, ABS, TC or the Crusie Control is working at the moment.
After searching this forum my first thought was that the ABS ECU had given up, but now I’m not sure anymore, because none of the warning light is on (ABS, TC).
Everything else in the dash is working, petrol, temp and rev counter.

If I press the TC button nothing happens….

Any ideas, before I start ordering spare parts…..

Are you anywhere around London?
If yes you can rummage around my 1999 2.5 and take any parts you want or need...

I have been hearing a whinning sound over a period of time. Today my miggy acted up. My mech says it is the connecting rod bearing. How do i ascertain that is it. What is the part number. Is it   the only thing i need to change.
 :-[ :-[

When the mechanic at the garage tells you anything you should always seek second opinion. They charge per hour, so have vested interest...
Do YOU hear any knocking?
What is the "whinning" sound? How often do you hear it? Where is it coming from?

due to the extream cold my cooling system froze, not good.has all now thawed out and antifreeze added even it had some in!but there is some sort of fault now.when drving all gear box lights come on and there is no power, almost like the clutch is slipping, put the auto box into first and it pulls fine but wont easily change up or down sport and snow buttons do not work ither. :any suggestions as to what it may be and how to fix.there are now warning lights other than those already mentioned.please help my cars my lifeline!!! if it helps its an r reg pre face 2.5 diesel auto:y

Gearbox is not very likely to develop a problem because of cold weather...
Does the engine sound and behave well?

In case it is gearbox: did you check the gearbox oil?

P.S. How cold was the "extreme cold"?

Omega General Help / Re: Crankshaft sensor - Fault Code 19
« on: 09 January 2010, 12:15:15 »
So, is it starting and running better now?

My previous similar experience with crank fault code (I do not remember if it was 19 or some other if there is another) happened when my cam belt jumped couple of teeth some years ago. It may cause similar running problems ...

One easy test to check if the head gasket is leaking:
before starting the car open your coolant expansion tank, then start the engine and check if the water is "boiling" - it will look like it is boiling because of the pressured gasses from cylinders will be running out through the water...

If this looks OK:
check if your windscreen is steaming from inside when the heating is on, it would indicate a leak in heating radiator - this would explain both your water leaking AND the heating not working well...

hey all
im having a few probs with the heating in the old elite, im not getting hot air from the vents in the car even tho both the alloy pipes off the matrix are hot,
Did you use Radweld any time recently (or before it happened)?
As far as I know heating rad gets blocked by it before the main radiator gets sealed...

Omega General Help / Re: crankshaft sensor(autobox)?

yesterday i was given the number of an ex vauxhall mechanic and told hes yer man.ive just spoken to him and explained how my box wont select 1st or go throuigh the gears when in d but i can manually select all the gears and he said is yer eml on(yes) and he said the last one he had like that was caused by the crank sensor ive no reason to doubt him and was wondering if anyone else has had thisand is it an easy job to try another :)

AFAIK crank sensor is the one on the engine's crank, if is NOT working, your engine will NOT start, if it is not working correctly your engine will work VERY badly if at all...
So, I would not think that crank sensor will cause ANY problems with gearbox...
ATF level and worn gearbox clutches may cause such problems, I would check ATF first (much cheaper)...

Omega General Help / Re: Very Poor MPG. Help Please.
« on: 06 October 2009, 18:27:25 »
How bad or good is the power output? Poor MPG can be caused by bad mix, incorrect ratio, though it will be noticeable as the power will drop like a rock too...
I may say that I drove my 2.5 V6s for over 300K miles and did NOT have any problems with crank sensors, though I did have problems with leaking cam gaskets...

Omega General Help / Re: HELP!! My miggy sounds terminaly ill

I was thinking that could have happened

whatever you do, do not start it again.

Best thing to do is to strip it down to take the cambelt cover off - will take you about an hour : take a piccie and we can confirm for you.

if the belt has slipped start praying....

Interesting, I bought one with jumped cambelt (I do not know if that is different from slipped cambelt, but I would doubt it) and there was NO damage to the engine, when I disassembled it I discovered that there are grooves in all piston where the valves are, so at no point any of the valves will be in contact with the pistons...
