Omega General Help / Re: MAF sensor
« on: 02 January 2010, 14:53:56 »
Cheers for the help guys.

Must admit, given that its running better and more economical than it was before, am half tempted to keep an eye on it and see how it goes as is.

Getting around 3-4 more mpg on a straight motorway run than was before and feels more responsive to boot.

Now giving me around 33mpg on a motorway run (with a slightly heavy foot).

Yeah, I've checked Ebay.... Unfortunately, nothing for a 2.6 V6. But thanks for the suggestion.

Just out of interest, there is what looks like a diode (possibly a zener) on one side of the sensor. Does anyone know if it is a diode, and if it is, which way round it goes?

Mine's reading about 2.6 K/ohms either way round when I measure it with my ohm meter.

Omega General Help / MAF sensor

Guys.

The MAF sensor is knackered on the car (cheers for the help on figuring that one out) :y.

Is it likely to do any damage if I limp it home with the sensor unplugged, as the engine works when its disconnected?

Do you know where I can get a replacement, as Vauxhall are insisting that I need to buy the whole meter arrangement for £280 + VAT (which aint happening).

Does anyone know what the value of the diode is on the sensor, as this is definately buggered, and it would be a shame to buy a new sensor if I could get away with a new diode.

Cheers again guys.

Cheers for that.

Are they fairly easy to access or is it a 'drop lots of things off' type excercise?

MAF was going to be next on the list.  Was just wanting to check Lambda sensor as have been informed by garage  that one has a loose connection (wishful thinking probably).

This car seems to be a friday afternoon car!! >:(

Not sure whether it helps or not, but the car was running fine (at least for the last month), then I left the road side lights on for a few nights in v v cold weather, which flattened the battery.  Charged battery back up and car was rough as a badgers arse again.

Is a temporarily flattened battery likely to bugger anything else up, or is it likely to be a conicidence?

aye - i got 170 and 173 which both appear to be fuel trim errors on a 2.6 V6.

4 sensors!!!

Thats it, i'm just going to use my bike instead, don't think it knows what sensors are (other than oil pressure), though boot space is limited.

Omega General Help / Lambda sensor location
« on: 29 December 2009, 11:05:55 »
Guys

My car has died over night (yet again).

Same issue as before, engine turns over, runs for a few seconds then just gets rougher and rougher until stalling.

Checked the fault codes and its stating that its the fuel trim.

Recently had a garage replace the crank sensor and coil packs.  They also said that the lambda sensor wires were loose, and reconnected them.

Wanted to just check they hadn't come loose again, so at the risk of sounding daft, where is the lambda sensor and the connecting plug located?

Cheers

Guys - this may be an odd question, but how does the plug (for the crankshaft sensor) at the top rear of the engine actually clip into place.  I can get my hands to it (well finger-tips), but dont want to break anything by forcing it when there may be a clip.  seems a shame to have to take the scuttle off (especially given that the last person to try it has rounded off the nuts on the wipers).

wasn't me - honest ;)

Nice one fellas :y

I'll add the crank sensor to this weekends chores - along with finish kitchen, bathroom and bike and see how she runs.

Thanks for the advice - will keep you posted

liking the 2/3 of an engine thing!!

Bike can't be slower than mine - due to it currently being scattered around much of the garage.  Got a tad carried away on it's pre-winter strip down ;D

Ahh - now I understand :)

So it sounds like a new crank sensor might be a good place to start - I assume genuine vauxhall would be preferred to pattern parts.

Thumbing through haynes manual as I type - dont think those 4 leads are actually the plug leads.

As I say - apologies for lack of grasp of V6.  Trying to get up to speed with it, though Haynes don't make it easy!!
