MAF sensor

Guys.

The MAF sensor is knackered on the car (cheers for the help on figuring that one out) :y.

Is it likely to do any damage if I limp it home with the sensor unplugged, as the engine works when its disconnected?

Do you know where I can get a replacement, as Vauxhall are insisting that I need to buy the whole meter arrangement for £280 + VAT (which aint happening).

Does anyone know what the value of the diode is on the sensor, as this is definately buggered, and it would be a shame to buy a new sensor if I could get away with a new diode.

Have you searched ebay with the part number ... should get one a lot cheaper than Vx price  :y

Unplugging it will just set the ECU back to basic settings so will run fine but be less eceonomic than normal. For replacements check eGay :y

Yeah, I've checked Ebay.... Unfortunately, nothing for a 2.6 V6. But thanks for the suggestion.

Just out of interest, there is what looks like a diode (possibly a zener) on one side of the sensor. Does anyone know if it is a diode, and if it is, which way round it goes?

Mine's reading about 2.6 K/ohms either way round when I measure it with my ohm meter.

Replaced the MAF sensor on mine about a year ago. Contact Mike on 01618738300 and quote part no 0281002184(check first to ensure correct sensor for your car)the total price was £33.50 inc postage. It is worth a try.

I changed the MAF on my 2001 2.6 V6 only a few weeks ago due to the emmisions light and codes 0170 and 0173, Fuel trim malfunction.

Searched ebay with the MAF part number 0281002184 and came upon Anchor Car Parts, where the MAF for the 2.6 V6 costs £33. The part came through in a matter of days.   

It is an identical part to the knackered vauxhall MAF i removed, I have very limited mechanical ability but fitted the replacement in minutes. Low and behold the emmisions light went out, got better fuel economy and the car is much more responsive.

According to 2009 TC book, £162 retail, £126 TC (both + vat).

try searching the bosch part number on the maf itself. They are used on other vehicles as well as omega. Note 2.5 3.0 are differant, obviously. 2.6 and 3.2 are same.

Cheers for the help guys.

Must admit, given that its running better and more economical than it was before, am half tempted to keep an eye on it and see how it goes as is.

Getting around 3-4 more mpg on a straight motorway run than was before and feels more responsive to boot.

Now giving me around 33mpg on a motorway run (with a slightly heavy foot).
