Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: fuse 15 on 52 reg CDX

How did you disconnect the seat? I've had a look underneath today but can only find cables going into the floor - I can't see somewhere I can unplug.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Electrical Problem Fuse 15
« on: 04 December 2009, 17:50:05 »
Hi all,

Can anyone help me diagnose a problem with my 99' Omega? It's a 2.5 (BMW) CD.

Fuse 15 works while the ignition is off, after you start the engine, about 5 seconds later fuse 15 pops. If you put a new fuse in, it will work while the key is turned to power on, but when you start the engine you again it pops after about 4 or 5 seconds.

Can anyone tell me what fuse 15 powers? and does anyone know what items going through that fuse would only come on a few seconds after the engine has started? This should help me locate the fault if possible, or at least disconnect the faulty item.

To my knowledge, the following stop working when fuse 15 blows;
  • Electric Windows
  • Heater & blowers
  • Speedometer/rev meter/fuel/temperature.
  • Milage stops moving (so driving records no miles on display)

Anyone know anything that may help - or have had this in the past? A garage would cost a bit to trace an electrical problem. For information the drivers heated seat doesn't work - but everything else works.

Omega General Help / Re: Interior Blowers

Yeah sorry - manual.

Radio has been out over Christmas, half the dash was taken to bits to fix the fuse 15 blowing constantly (appeared to be a short in a bulb backligting one of the heaters - replaced and all good)

Are they easy to spot?

Omega General Help / Interior Blowers

Hi all,

A quick question of something to check - I have a '99 2.5 CD TD (BMW) and I'm having a couple of issues with the blowers inside the car.

No matter what I change the redirection to (feet/face/screen/screen) it will only blow air to the bottom of the windscreen. If I change it to feet for example (hot or cold) I hear a little sound behind the dash like air is escaping somewhere and I get nothing at all out of the vents above the radio, or the front passenger/driver vents. I only get air out of the tiny holes pointed at the windows and along the windscreen.

However, heat bellows out of the back two behind the centre console when set - so the air is getting to the back.

Just incase it's worth mentioning, the car had air-con but the compressor was removed by the previous owner and was never replaced (no idea why) but just incase it has anything to do with it.

Is there anything anyone can advise I check?

Omega General Help / Re: Poor Fuel Economy

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to get the temperator sensor done, if it's still bad - it's going to have to go.

Was a quick steal at £500, but it is costing an absolute bomb to keep going. I've had VW diesels for the past 5 years because I regularly do 300 miles a week. The Omega is killing me in fuel costs. My Bora before this (that I had to get rid of due to redundancy) averaged 45+ MPG even with a heavy foot - and did Newcastle to Glasgow without moving on the fuel gague, and Newcastle - Windsor London - Newcastle in a day and still had enough for a weeks commuting (nearly 700 miles from a full tank)

60 litres in the Omega got me 400 motorway miles before it cried for more.

Time to bribe the bank manager!

Omega General Help / Poor Fuel Economy

Hi all,

Just floating this question on here as I've got no-one to ask or anyone to check against.

I've got a T reg Omega 2.5 (BMW straight 6 engine) CD TD. I've been getting pretty shocking MPG out of it, as an example I put 20 litres in - drove it almost everywhere (where possible) under 2000rpm. 100 miles and empty.

I did the same again, 20 litres, driving as I used to drive my VW Bora TDI (fairly normally). 100 miles and empty.

Doesn't last 2 days if you're heavy footed!

So, 20 litres = 100 miles, which is pretty bad.

So, does anyone else on here have the same engine? What do you get out of it? The engine temperature sensor looks goosed as it's always cold - so I guess that's not helping, and it will be due a service - but those can't reduce the MPG by such a massive amount can they?

Look forward to your thoughts!

Omega General Help / Re: New to the Omega!

Ah my bad, it's the manual.

Thanks for the tips above, I thought RWD would eat the rubber for some reason. I've read I might take a hit on MPG (Bora is great all rounder) but the money I save I can afford the extra tenner a week in diesel.

What's the going rates for chipping? It gets it upto about 170BHP doesn't it? Does this have a negative effect on other parts of the car (turbo/clutch)? Will I need to put better brakes on it or will stock Vauxhall brakes handle the extra BHP?

Not sure what old in the tooth means? As in there's better out there?

Omega General Help / New to the Omega!

Hi everyone, found this forum after doing a bit of research! I'm currently on page 48 of the Omega General Help Guide!

I'm currently driving an 04 VW Bora Highline 130 TDI and because of the 'credit crunch' and redundancy, I can't afford to keep it anymore so it's going back to the finance company!

This brings me onto the Omega, I've been offered a 99plate Omega 2.5 TD CD from a family friend. It's the one with the BMW engine, and the couple of times I've been in it it's been pretty comfortable.

I had a couple of questions about these, and filtering through 48 pages hasn't really cleared it up.

1. Timing Belt
These appear to have chains instead of belts for the timing? Am I right in guessing this should in theory never need to be changed? Is there something that needs opposed to replacement, to keep the chain in good nick?

2. Servicing/Oil Changes.
What is the servicing timetable on these? I think I read you can get 5L of synthetic oil from Vauxhall on here for under a tenner? That was just a random observation!

3. General Car Info
I'm new to RWD, do they eat the tyres? My Bora currently gives me about 15k on tyres with traction control.

I know this model has the BWM engine, what's the pro/con of that?

What are the brakes like on these? I understand it to be 130bhp, how often do brakes/discs need changing?

Are there any general things to look out for?

4. Headlights
It looks like it has the projection lenses, does anyone know what kind of headlights these have? Is it the white light with the blue tint from a distance? What is the visibility like with them?

I think that is all! I've been a V-Dubber for 5 years, and part of a VW owners forum, now looking to find a Vauxhall one to get some knowledge up there too!
