Omega General Help / Code 34 on 2.5TD
« on: 06 July 2010, 17:22:55 »
Hi All,

I've paperclipped the car today as I'm having problems with starting, especially when hot. I have ordered plugs and filters to do a service.

The car comes up with code 34 as only faultcode : Injector timing out of range.

How do I fix this? Can I clear the faultcodes out of the system myself?

Hi,

I have a problem with my autobox on '99 2.5TD. I have found the filter blocked and the oil is nearly burned.

Where can I fill the box? Acoording to the book the box takes Dexron 3 oil, but how much from empty with a new filter?

Many thanks in advance

Omega General Help / Re: replacing windscreen
« on: 16 October 2010, 11:51:50 »
Hi guys,

I'm not in the UK, but mainland Europe. Not all insurance covers the windscreen, hence the question.
Don't feel too much about forking out £300+ for new screen.

Hi,

I have a crack in the windscreen(top to bottom) and want to replace the screen.

Anyone have any experience doing this? which tools are required?
How is the screen clamped in place while the adhesive sets?
Does the adhesive need certain min temps to set?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5td, anyone ried one of these???
« on: 15 September 2010, 11:57:13 »
why don't you start with a BMW ECU, should give around 20BHP gain. The same engine in the BMW has around 150 ish BHP I believe.
You can maybe get cheap from the scrap yard.

Hi All,

just back from trip to Ukraine. Omega ran great. unfortunately I hit a pothole not far from the border on the way back, the tyre appears still ok, but there's a dent on the rim itself (inside). Can these types of dents be righted like you can on a steel rim? I have the 100 years anniversary rims( mine is a 08/99 opel omega).

3909km in 7 days, average 68km/h, 7.3L/100KM

Omega General Help / Re: fuel filter 2.5TD
« on: 15 July 2010, 07:14:52 »
I think there is a misunderstanding here.

I have attempted to drain the old fuelfilter BEFORE unscrewing it. There was no diesel in the OLD filter. There should be diesel coming out of the bleedscrew when it is opened whther or not the liftpump is running, it's the only way to drain the filter from water etc.

I understand the new filter is dry when assembled until the system is pressurised and bled.

That's interesting, as the liftpump only works when the engine is cold. It's 34C here today and after 3 hours the engine is still warm enough that the glowlight doesn't illuminate and thus the liftpump doesn't get activated.

Hi All,

My starting problems have become somewhat more manageable after a lot of cleaning intake, filters and liftpump in the tank.

Thing that has me baffled though, when I opened the drain on the old filter, there was NOTHING coming out of the filter!! No water and..........no diesel. Took drain plug out completely, still nothing.  :-?

Anyone....?????

Omega General Help / Re: hot start valve? Heisstartventil 2.5TD
« on: 09 July 2010, 17:52:02 »
Hi All,

Today I had bit of time to have a good look under the bonnet. It appears as suggested by one of you that the hto start valve is indeed an (vacuum) actuator for the EGR valve. There are 3 rubber lines and an electrical connection on this valve.
Looking at the engine and the position of the EGR valve itself, I believe (specially because mine is covered in black oily gunk) thta if the EGR dpoesn't operate freely, as in can be moved by vacuum, you will have a hotstart problem.
because of the M51 design, glowing is not really required when the engine is hot, however, a richer mixture will aid the starting of the engine. As in the original design, the liftpump will not run outside the glowmode, thus preventing the mixture to be enriched by increased fuelflow.
So, another way must be found, I believe the engineers have found this by means of the EGR valve, if you restrict the airflow in a situation where the fuelflow remains the same, you end up with a mixture which is richer and the engine starts smoothly even when warm.

This actually makes sense to me, as my engine certainly sounds like one that's not getting enough fuel when cranking it over. It's fairly similar to first cranking after fuelfilter change.

I will now change out the hot start valve, and clean the EGR and manifold assy.

Omega General Help / hot start valve? Heisstartventil 2.5TD

Hi All,

I have stumbled across this little part on Ebay.de in my quest to find out why my TD has such a difficult start when hot. Not in all forums I have visited have I found any reference to this part, yet it seems to be an original part. It is made by Pierburg who also makes parts for BMW.

I apologise for being stubborn on this subject, but when I read forum members replacing the almighty injectionpump at great cost and still having the hotstart problem, then in my view it is not the pump at fault.

I also doubt the 'hotstart' fix as offered on ebay, I can simply not believe that the Germans cannot come up with an idea like that themselves, and sell this M51 engine for so many years with this problem.

Anyone perhaps know where to find this part under the bonnet, haven't been able to locate it yet.

Omega General Help / 1999 2.5TD auto difficult hot start
« on: 17 June 2010, 21:45:30 »
Hi All,

I have problems getting the car started when hot. On a cold start I now glow twice which gives a perfect start without any smoke. On a single glow I sometimes need to crank for about 5 seconds. I believe new glow plugs are required. However, as I understand it, the 2,5 BMW engine doesn't glow when hot, so I don't really understand the hot start problem.( I haven't had time yet to clean/inspect lift pump).

I don't buy into:" the injection pump needs to be replaced ", which one often gets when going to a garage, the car only starts difficult when hot, it runs normally on m-way, enough power on accelaration at traffic lights, etc. Only in kick down do I get smoke.

opinions please

Omega General Help / poor warm start
« on: 11 March 2010, 15:37:36 »
Hi,

bought a 2.5TD omega auto estate(1999) last weekend. Drives very well (244K Km), first start of day on turn of key after glowing, later starts the glow light does not come on and requires a good touch on accelerator pedal.

There's no black smoke during or after start, not even under harsh accelaration.

The engine starts within 5 seconds of winding when warm, but when cold picks up within second.

« on: 11 March 2010, 15:30:24 »
hi new here on this forum.

Driven a Jeep Cherokee for a long time but move to austria and no or little LPG caused me to sell the Jeep.

I now have an Opel Omega Estate, 2.5TD Diamond. Not sure yet what it means but I also have a badge on both front doors "100" and these repeat in a round form on the front doorsills. Anyone?
