Hi,

I have a crack in the windscreen(top to bottom) and want to replace the screen.

Anyone have any experience doing this? which tools are required?
How is the screen clamped in place while the adhesive sets?
Does the adhesive need certain min temps to set?

You should have windscreen cover from your car insurance no?  It doesn't affect your NCB at all.

I had to have mine changed earlier this week for its MOT due to a chip.

if you've get fully comp insurance then i would suggest giving autoglass a ring, its not a job to tackle yourself...

Hi guys,

I'm not in the UK, but mainland Europe. Not all insurance covers the windscreen, hence the question.
Don't feel too much about forking out £300+ for new screen.

isnt the screen bonded in?
you need a special tool if so,

or a hot knife and plenty of sikaflex to put it back.

The screen will be bonded in, there are some specialist tools that will be needed.  You can normaly find them on ebay.  Failing have a word with your friendly winscreen fitter, he might sell you some of his tools!!  This worked for me!!

If you already have the new screen, than an easier way if a bit messy to get the screen out......................................

You need something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bergen-Bonded-Windscreen-Remover-Removal-Tool-B0ABG-/140462913625?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item20b43df859 to cut through the glue holding the screen in. Its not difficult to do, a little practise and that's it. It is also possible to cut one out of a scrap yard car to refit, but it's easy to crack them, better to let someone else do that bit.

I was going to replace mine recently, but a local firm supplied and fitted one for £100, so it wasn't worth doing it.

The chap who fitted mine used paper tape to hold it up until the glue set. Then fit the rubber surround to seal it.
