Omega General Help / Re: diesel
« on: 22 July 2007, 12:52:58 »
LPG is not an option unless there is somewhere else to put a tank apart from the boot?
I have a 3.9i Discovery that I have run in lpg since 1999 but I have two undersill tanks on that. Just need someting more economical but with lots of space. Wifes 2.0 picasso diesel is very roomy with rear seats taken and does 42mpg round town and 55-60 on a run. Maybe a passat or mondeo estate diesel might be worth looking at

At the mo I have a 3.0 elite, getting too expensive to run. Anyone have any ideas what the fuel consumption of diesel meega will be like?
Also are the engines ok?

Omega General Help / exhaust manifold
« on: 14 July 2007, 16:34:21 »
The exhaust on my 3.0 elite is blowing at the manifold and I have just the front bottom stud is missing (passenger side). It hasnt sheared off, its just not there.
Does anyone know what size thread it is?
Ive tried a 8 mm and it seems too small and a 10mm is too big.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: plastic headlamps
« on: 11 June 2007, 22:15:19 »
My headlamps were really bad, yellow, scratched and had had stickers on at some point. I used 1200 grit wet and dry a new sheet) then 1200 grit again but well used. Then Halfords rubbing compound then T cut then polish. The headlamps are now crystal clear. I also bought 50% brighter bulbs.
For the first time since Ive had the car I can see where Im going!!!!

Started to rub with 1200 grit and t cut - looks like its gonna work well. I was going to ask about changing the lamps to something like 50% brighter. Do they make that much differance?

Omega General Help / Headlights

The head lights on my 97 meega has what seem like plastic lenses that have gone opaque. I read somewhere about rubbing them (wet and dry??) then polishing them.
Does this work or will I make them worse.

Thanks

Yep, the spark plug leads are completly dry. I can see a bit of oil under the bit in the pic, but I cant get the bolts out, my 10mm socket slips and 9mm is too small.
Richard
ps. tried adding a pic but cant see how to

Ive just taken of the inlet bit and cant see any oil anywhere. Its def not the cam cover gaskets.  Is there something at the back or top that I cant see that could be leaking?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Oil leak drip drip drip
« on: 17 May 2007, 17:56:43 »
I have a 1997 3.0l Elite and I have a (bad) oil leak. I had it up on the ramps today as I suspected it was the cam cover gaskets but having a good round I'm not so sure.
The starter motor is covered in oil and the Sensor (crankshaft??) next to the oil filter is covered too. The oil then sort of joins up and makes a mess of the drive.

Question: Is there something in the 'V' between the two cynder banks that could leak or could it be cam cover gaskets but its hard to see?
On the Rover V8 there is a valley gasket, does the Vauxhall have one of these?

Help! Regards
Richard
