Omega General Help / Foam under scuttle soaked
« on: 23 March 2013, 16:39:31 »
Just felt the foam under the scuttle and its pretty wet. The container where the pollen filtre sits is dry as I knocked out the drain grommet a couple of years back after it filled up and soaked the carpets. Is there any other drain holes I should be unblocking to stop the foam getting wet or could it be coming in from somewhere else? I also had problems with the windows steaming up unless I put the air conditioning on.

Omega General Help / Re: Starting Problem
« on: 21 February 2013, 13:46:29 »
Bootsey, I have got a replacement MAF ordered and should be putting it on this weekend. I will let you know if this cures my problem. At the moment my existing MAF is disconnected and the car runs a bit lumpy when cold. It seems to run fine after the car has warmed up. I did have a problem recently where my thermostat failed and had to be replaced. Because the thermostat was open all the time, the engine never really got warm and when the thermostat was replaced, there was a load of the white gunk all over the place which I had to clean out. I think I got it all out but there could still be some blocking a breather. Did you get the 0100 code which I believe indicates a problem with the MAF?

Went to start the car this morning with the MAF disconnected and the same problem happened - it cut out and I had to keep turning it over for about 10-15 seconds before it came to life again. As I have the code 0100, if it's not the MAF, whats the next thing I should be checking?

I disconnected the maf this morning and it started first time and didn't cut out. The engine warning light has come on now and even if I plug the maf back in, it still stays on. Have done the pedal trick and have the new code 0100. Does this mean a new maf or can they be cleaned/overhauled. If it means a new maf, is there a guide to show me how to change it?  Thanks

Omega General Help / Starting Problem
« on: 18 February 2013, 14:32:29 »
When I try to start my car in the mornings, it starts on the first turn on the key then dies unless I rev it frantically. If it dies, I have to keep turning it over (almost until the battery gives up) and it eventually fires up - usually a bit lumpy. Once the car is running after a few seconds, it runs beautifully. Initially i thought it was the crank sensor on the way out and had it replaced but it still does it. I did the pedal trick and got 2 codes: 1613 and 1612. I don't know if this has anythig to do with it or some codes which need to be deleted. Can anyone enlighten me?

As a complete novice, what will I find under the removed scuttle. Is there anything that needs servicing or is it just for getting to the the rear of the dashboard? Is there any photos of the removed scuttle?

Omega General Help / Running Cool
« on: 15 January 2013, 11:45:41 »
Something thats just started to happen in the last 2 weeks. Although the cabin in my 2.6 omega warms up (doesn't really get hot), around town the temperature guage hardly gets to 80 degrees. On motorway driving it hardly moves at all. My thoughts are that it's the thermostat but before I change it, is there anything else it could be. I believe the thermostat is a little 'difficult' to change because of the 'bastard bolt'.

Omega General Help / Another auto box problem
« on: 08 October 2012, 13:05:44 »
I have a 2002 automatic 2.6 petrol. A strange thing has happened a couple of time whilst driving. It normally happens when I'm accelerating from a standstill (between 1st and 2nd) and it seems to go into neutral. Well it has no drive at all. After a few seconds or if I play about moving the lever through the gears manually, it engages again and off I go.  I had the gearbox checked and topped up last June using the correct methods so oil levels shouldn't be a problem - any clues please?

Omega General Help / Towing

I have a 2.6 auto omega and was wondering what the maximum size caravan I could tow with this car is. Has anybody else had experience with this and have you any tips.

Omega General Help / Tick Over
« on: 06 September 2012, 13:23:40 »
What revs is my 2.6 V6 2002 omega meant to tick over at?  My Omega seems to tick over at around 500rpm but after a run and the engine is nicely warm, when I come to a standstill, it seems to rev higher at about 700-800rpm for a few seconds before falling back to the 500rpm. Could there be something wrong or is this a normal trait.

Omega General Help / Possible Alternator Problem
« on: 26 May 2012, 19:34:46 »
My 2.6 2002 omega came to a sudden halt today and I had to call out the AA. They jump started the car and tested the alternator with a volt meter and it was putting out around 12.5 volts. Is this below what it should be producing and does it suggest the alternator is kapput?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Crank Case Sensor
« on: 16 May 2012, 12:32:26 »
Vauxhall want £56 for the sensor and the local factors £35. Is it worth paying the extra for a Vx part in terms of longevity or performance? Thank you
