yeah i got the remote working although the pin seems broken in the bat compartment so not sure how long it'll last lol.

hi folks,
i picked up my new 96 2.5td estate, i only got one key which is a lil worn and isn't locking the doors. central locking does work. i've got a few questions.
1. can i get a key with transponder cut and program it my self?
2. can i get the pass codes from any where other than vx if needed.
3. i've got the remote fob working by re-assoiciating it with the car, can i get one from ebay and turn on the ign and lock the doors as i have just done or do i again need something else.
hope to get some help

swapped the rad out not as bad a job as i fear'd and wow i have a nice cool running omega, didn't get above 95 and only that high briefly. the rad i got was a auto so had some extra bits which made it tight in place's but all in all JOB DONE.

glad i don't have to remove them mine def don't have aircon but i have the twin fans at the front
and the viscos.

well i'm doing the rad swap in the morning got a second hand one will see if that helps or not. do the front fans stay in place or come out with rad?

i've had the same problem heading into the 100's changed water pump and removed therm and still doing it, have got a second hand rad on the way, is there a guide to removing the rad on a 2.5td anywhere??

oh also i spoke to a bmw chief techniction who tells me it is a interference engine having gone at 70 mph it will have bent stuff.

tried to crank the engine over watching the chain and it don't move it's def the chain.

hmmmm i know the new bmw lump which came after this the m57 is a non interference. was just hoping that this one is as well.

well something has gone with the timing chain not sure what yet but before i bother to strip it and replace is the engine a non interference or has it smashed my valves

ok i have i (think) worked it out.
i'm right it's nothing to do with the clutch at all as i said.
how ever and this is a lil guess work till i can strip it and see but. i think it is a weak chain tensioner when giving it some it put extra strain on it and moved it and advanced the timing making it seem as if it was kicking it down.
what made me think of this i hear you all asking. well on my way to work doing 70 i heard what sounded like a chain slapping about and the engine cut and wouldn't restart.
aa came out to recover me he had a lil look and said it is def something to do with the chain. till i strip it i don't know if it is as i think and the tensioner or if it's the chain or if it's seized or if it's a pig in there but it kinda makes sense what i said.
will start another thread if i can't find the info, on if the engine is non interfearance or not.
