Omega General Help / Re: sub 20 mpg
« on: 21 November 2011, 22:09:02 »

Hope you knew what you were getting into when you bought one of these. Not a town car, cruiser (and for towing).
sort of, i've only been driving six years, had a tigra, a vectra and now the mig, its been a pig to own, bonnet's up to often for my liking, no heater and cylinder head gasket blown twice in 18 months of ownership :( but its a nice car to drive, until an amber lights on the dash

Omega General Help / missfire
« on: 14 November 2011, 12:19:08 »
hi folks, i'm having a problem with my 2 litre, i have a misfire thats really getting on my nerves now, its developed over last couple of weeks, its intermitent and is worse pulling away from standing start, i have to ease of the gas pedal to let it sort itself out and then runs great, i'm using loads of petrol, which has led me to think its temperature related, could i have engine running to cold? and keeping cold start on? needle never lifts above 85 degrees, there is no fault code or diagnostic lights on dash, any ideas what to try?

saw that the cooling fan was running with a stone cold engine.  Does this indicate anything.
hi, mate, i have found that the climate control uses the cooling fan, selecting ECO mode or turning off the climate control might have turned the fans off, worth knowing for future reference

Omega General Help / Re: Snow aaargghhh!

well i am managing to get about, not missed a shift at work yet, only had car since july, and first car with auto and RWD, selecting snow mode makes a real difference and am keeping tank about half filled, only one real scarey moment was going down hill and let car run away, and engine got reved by gearbox and rear wheels locked, sideways now, hit throttle and she sorted herself out ;D

Omega General Help / Re: advice on heater

Does it warm up quite quickly first thing in the morning? Is it very slow to warm up?

Could be air still in the matrix or partial blockage.

I'd change the thermostat anyway as they are only cheap :y
i would say it heated up steadily showing around 90 on gauge
can matrix be bleed??
think thermostat is only 6 months old, replaced by mechanic when head gasket replaced

Omega General Help / advice on heater
« on: 14 December 2010, 11:59:07 »
hi folks, i have heater probs, i have a better understanding of the heater controls and have read thru the topics on here about heater probs, i have very poor heat coming from vents, but some are warm, the rear vent is the best!!??, then the front drivers and passenger side vents, but the centre vents are blowing cold air, could this be vacuum problem?
i haven't owned car long, when i bought it the cylinder head gasket was blown, it was over pressurising the cooling system, and blowing water out of expansion tank, could this have damaged something connected to matrix? is there a valve that controls flow??
i also suspected that there was no thermostat, but have checked and there is one, seems as this is first place to start, you seem to recommend changing housing, is this a vauxhall only part? and what part numbers and cost ?
could my car have a few issues :-?
any ideas??

I have a similar thing with mine which i have just assumed is the matrix. I've put it on the list.

You say putting ECO on makes it worse. When ECO is selected it stops 'conditioning' the air.

All air conditioning does is remove the moisture, which makes it easier to cool the air aswell. You can also use air con on heat aswell.

The reason the windows steam up more when ECO is on is because there is moisture in the air coming from the fans which condenses on the windows. If you turn ECO off, the air will be drier, therefore any moisture on the windows will be dry off. :y And you'll have clear windows! Helps if they're cleaner aswell, less particles for condensation to form around.

aye, found a lad at work who used to have omega, and he set the heater to 'HI', switched to 'ECO' and recirc, telt me if windows mists up to press button above recirc and this blasts windscreen clear, it worked but its still not as hot as the Vectra i used to have, but think i can live with it

Omega General Help / heater/climate control problem
« on: 23 November 2010, 13:07:19 »
hi, i am having problems getting the heater to give out any heat, the aircon has worked at keeping me cool but now as winter is here having trouble getting heat, i thought that there was no engine thermostat but have found that the climate control keeps the engine coolant fans running all the time giving the impression of no thermostat, have done some fault eliminating myself and coming to the thought that matrix is blocked or there is a fault with climate control, selecting ECO on, only makes things worse, windscreen steams up, any thoughts??? cheers
