Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlight Washer relay queerie?
« on: 04 February 2011, 17:45:56 »
Just a quick queeire as I need a relay for the headlight washer system.

Will the pre-facelift relay work on a facelift vehicle (I'm guessing that the main electrical system didn't change much between the 2)?

Also, I've found one for a Frontera and is red in colour and says "power wash" on the side on a blue lable with the GM numbers too - Would this be ok to use?

Just for reference, 03 plate 2.2dti CD is my vehicle :)

Cheers  :D

No?

The bio I use is produced to EN14214 standards and I have no problems in using it nor do other people I know with high-end expensive diesel motors (Rangerover TDV6, Jaguar X-type Diesel, BMW 530d Sport to name a few)

Problems start due to lack of servicing or using Bio that contains a high amount of water or glycerol. If produced properly to En standards then shouldn't have any issues providing you service your vehicle regular.

I'm no virgin to Biodiesel - I've used it in all my DERV  motors on in the last 5 years and never had an issue yet.

My 03 reg L200 did over 50k on Bio and never had any problems at all - regular oil changes and fuel filter changes play a big part in keeping an engine happy when on B100  :)

so from your experience we should never use biodiesel in the 2,2dti !!! thanx for that

Why so? I've run my 166k miles 2.2 DTi on Bio for the last feww thousand miles with no adverse effects on the engine performance or fuel pump.

With the colder weather I have mixed 2 litres of petrol for every 100 litres of B100 Bio to stop it gelling and even when the temps dropped to -14 here it started first time and ran perfectly  :D

Had exactly the same problem with my DTi when I bought it.

Would crank over for ages and ages with gray smoke pouring out of the exhaust and eventually splutter into life.

Checked the glowplugs and even though they were glowing when tested on the bench, they were not hot enough.

A new set of glowplugs for 20 quid and it now starts first time every time :D

Just a tip, the glow plug relay stays energised for about 60 seconds after the dashboard indication has extinguished and keeps the plugs glowing until cylinder bore temperature is adequate :)

For the sake of £20 I'd change the plugs - only takes 15 mins :)

Omega General Help / Interior trim removal?

Have had a search but cannot find anything (either that or I'm not looking in the right places :D )

Anyway, I want to remove the wallnut radio surround and gearlever/handbrake surround without damaging it as I want to coat it with black gloss vinyl and refit it - Not a massive fan of the wallnut but for the price of the car I wasn't going to complain about it!

Anyone any pointers please?  :)

Had the FK452 on an E39 540i Sport a few years ago, not a bad tyre and good road mannors regardless of the weather.

But saying that, I had the predecessor, the FK451 on my 380bhp 4x4 Cosworth and absolutely hammered them to bits on the Nurburgring - they only lasted about 20 laps and were brand new before going. BUT saying that, they were superb tyres - Just a shame they arn't made anymore :(

Omega General Help / Spanner light on instrument cluster
« on: 06 January 2011, 20:27:53 »
Hiya all :)

I've had a search on here to try and find the answer but can't seem to find it :(

Does the facelift 2.2 DTi have a spanner light on the dashboard instrument cluster (the one that is used on other engines to read the ecu fault codes when the throttle is pressed and held with the engine not running) ?

The reason I ask is that obviously the cluster in my car has that cutout/picture but doesn't illuminate when you turn the ignition on and the vehicle self test is performed.

If it is supposed to have it then I suspenct the bulb may of been removed or has died.

Cheers :)

Would the sumps need swapping over too?

Thinking of aquiring a replacement engine for when mine pops as the original is on 165k :) :D

Possibly cam sensor?

Have you had the codes read?

Where in West Yorkshire are you, I have a code reader if your car has the OBD socket in the fusebox under the steering column :)

Omega General Help / Re: Good battery
« on: 04 January 2011, 16:44:14 »
Halfords batteries are decent bits of kit - Got one of their HB series Lead Acid batteries on my L200 weekend toy and that isn't used for weeks on end and can tage a few mins of cranking to start - Never let me down once in the last 3 years :D :D and also gets the occasional abuse of a 12,000lb winch being used when I forget to put the engine speed up on :-X

Was considerably cheaper too with my trade card :D

Just done a set on my 165k DTi and they came out alright :)

New set in and pushed the leads firmly home and the car starts first time now as opposed to 2 mins of cranking 8-)
