When did it some years ago I digged around the tree, cut all the roots I was able to and the rest of tree and roots were pulled out simply by a small tractor. Not a job I'm dreaming of but I could do it without using of any chemicals or semtex ... :y

I've taken now taken the roots of about 10 trees. Two were oak and very difficult, the rest as I cut the trees down, I left about 1.5m of the 150mm diameter trunk, so I could use that for leverage. Then just a case of digging around the roots and chopping through them with an axe, until the tree is loose enough, then using the trunks leverage to snap the rest.  :y :y :y
