Advice needed on killing a tree root .............
« on: 22 March 2012, 18:45:24 »

I have removed a mass of Ivy which was destroying part of a fence. Ive cut the root just above ground level - the root must be about 3 inch in diameter.

Whats the best way to kill it?

I dont have ay used engine oil, but have heard that parafin or Jeyes fluid poured down a hole drilled in the stump should do the trick.

Thanks

drilling holes in it and push bit of copper tube into holes, the reaction to the copper kills it and also not as illiegal as tipping fluids around your garden to get into watercourse

Ok, so if I drill a 16mm hole as deep as possible and then drive in a length of 15mm copper pipe that should do the trick? Should be able to get about 3 inches or so in .....
