I'll say, first off, the majority of the staff I meet are friendly, polite, and hard working - but the business plan itself is hopelessly inefficient. Firstly, attempting to deliver during the day, when the majority of people are at work and/ or fighting in the dole queue - a terrific waste of their time and fuel.
Even the postwoman I was chatting up talking to said, the ground staff have suggested time and time again to do parcels in the early evening, say 4-8, but the management won't have it.
I'll admit, I work wonky shifts, but when their opening times are much the same as most people's working hours, it causes nothing but frustration - as does early closing on a Friday. Luckily, I've got Woman popping down to pick up my parcel in the morning, but a lot of people, especially people working in retail, will be working Saturday morning, surely?
Then there's waiting for 24 hours before your failed delivery is ready to be collected - even DHL* will have it ready by the same evening, going by previous experience...
If you pay for "First class" post on a Thursday, they attempt delivery on Friday, and you want to arrange redelivery, you have to give them a clear working day in the middle - so you're looking at Monday before they'll redeliver - if you're lucky enough to be flexible around them.
No wonder they're in financial bother every few weeks, when the alternative "private" couriers will provide a much better service a lot of the time...
Ranting is quite therapeutic, even if my grammar and general written English is roughly that of a 12 year old...
