As many know, I bought a new car about 6 weeks ago, and all has been well.

My tax is due at the end of the month, so went onto the website to buy new as you do.

Only to be refused because I don't have valid insurance!

Very strange....Logged onto my insurance, and low and behold, I had mistyped the reg.  Simple error, I had caught the wrong key.  I had set all this up on my phone in the dealer, and its online only, so had no real certificate to notice on.  OOPS!

Now, in the last 6 weeks, I have done over 3000 miles, driven in front of, behind, overtaken, been overtaken by many police cars.  I have driven past the vans with cameras pointed out,  I have been up and down motorways, through specs cams, dual carriage ways the lot.  The car must have spent most of its life on camera.

So why the hell haven't I been stopped and questioned?  The reg I had 'insured' doesn't even exist.

If Ive done this accidentally for nearly 2 months, then how many out there are doing this full time?!?!?!

Its no surprise there are so many uninsured out there, Ive proved how easy it is to get away with!

Anyway, all insured now, and should be able to buy my tax tonight, as you have to wait 24 hours between tries.
Why was it not picked up when you filled in the reg ... :-\ once you have done reg on insurance site.moneycrapmarket.com you get all car spec and the. Are these details correct

Was done manually directly on my insurers website as it was a mid policy change and cheaper than cancelling and buying fresh elsewhere.

I got pulled a few years ago for no insurance....a couple of weeks after i had bought it....police at the side of the road......however they didnt pull me the first time i went passed them......but the second time....was given a producer and next day when i produced the insurance cert.....i asked if this was a bit of a waste of time.....blokey behind the desk said 'yes it was'.
It was a vehicle plated as a private hire vehicle.....plod that stopped me should have known, council wont issue a plate unless they have seen a valid MOT/Insurance cert for the vehicle  ::) (blokey on the desk new this!)

APNR cameras must get loads of cars flagging up as no insurance.....what about company cars? often leased so in the lease companies name and insurance details in another company name.....with no reg number on the cert.

Ive got an insurance cert here from when i leased the trafic......it states 'any person insured to drive that I (the policy holder) has given permission to drive, any vehicle owned/rented/leased or in charge of, by policy holder'.

Really vague insurance cert......but i bet all his approx 100 vehicles flag up as uninsured when an APNR sees them  ;)

You would be surprised the number of times I have done document checks for our self employed fleet and this exact thing happens

Imagine how many people assume once that submit button has been hit all is complete without double checking  ;)

i think you have been lucky
if you had been stopped you would have had no insurance, even though it was a honest mistake

I made the same mistake with Master Vamps first car, I insured it online and got the documents, but never looked at them........ :-[ :-[

Playing one night putting various numbers into the Ask Mid? insurance checker I put his number in and it came up as uninsured....... :o On checking I was a digit out, soon sorted, not many APNR in our local immediate area, thankfully, though I did have paperwork so would assume the Police would have understood........ :y

On a similar note, in town the other day passing a garage that does recovery, 3 vehicles parked with 'No Insurance No Car' stickers on the rear, all were relitively newish cars...... ::) ::) :-X

One of my friends did that with a Seat Leon Cupra R (K1 model - not a discreet car!) and didn't notice for over 8 months until he tried to buy tax.

How he wasn't stopped I don't know - must just be down to luck
