It won't be the linkage, if it was then other gears would affected to.

Its most likely clutch related, first port of call would be a fluid change and bled from the bottom up.

Don't agree there mate, if it is the same problem I had, it was hard putting it into 1st, then from 1st to 2nd, 3rd 4th 5th and reverse were all fine, new linkage sorted mine, I would replace the linkage first, if the problem is still there, start looking at the clutch and gb fluid level

Arguably, a fluid change is cheaper, easier, and quicker than swapping the cable and adjusting it :-\

VX usually have offers on things like brake fluid changes :y my Mot place charges £35 for a fluid change...

I also have another issue  >:(

Car with the spanner light comes on all the time, previous owner told me it was code P1555 which points to the throttle body I think?

I'm hoping it just needs a good clean out  :-\

Take throttle body off and clean it , probably all gummed up . Other thing mite be maf sensor .

Totally different setup to Corsa, it won't be gear linkage and as you have just confirmed linkage affects more than than one gear
