.....
But my rear window DOES need clearing mechanically  ....

It seems the vast majority of the world's car manufacturers disagree with you  ::)

Andy, I've been the "only man in step" before! My HRW does work, but I'll go with Rain-X as a better option than trying to add a wiper. However, I am now trying to remember what the car was that had one......it was a lidded-boot saloon/hatch in which the rear glass opened with the boot lid, i.e. the whole thing was hinged at roof level.
I've Googled all of the cars that I can remember owning, with no joy: put me out of my misery, someone. Please!

I am thinking if it hinged at the roof line then it was more a traditional hatch back.  If you do a search for 1980 Honda Ballade as posted earlier you will see it looks rather strange as it has an angled rear window which should not need a wiper.  Rain-X might be your best bet unless you want to mod your poor mig  :)

That's a hatch back type affair then? Which makes it MUCH easier to position the wiper motor, as like the omega estate, the motor can be mounted on the door. Obviously on the saloon the boot is in the way, so that just leaves drilling the roof. I suppose re sale value isn't a concern on the omega these days.

The BMW estates have a wiper mounted in the glass of the tailgate. Then the glass opens separately to the tail gate again. Very handy for dog owners with a dog cages as they can leave the tail gate glass open for the dog and still leave the car secure.
The wiper itself though is troublesome as the connectors, glass to tailgate frame fail/get damp and carode iirc. Something like that anyway.

Must say though. Not once have I thought, I wish I had a rear wash wipe on my omega saloon. :-\

Aw Chris, I have NEVER had a BumWee and am never likely to! The make/model of that car eludes me and is stressing me; as I recall, the motor was mounted at the bottom of the glass (not sure if the spindle went through the glass or not) and cleared all the area that I needed to see through.
The contenders are mainly Cavalier, Astra, Volvo 460 (NOT the hairdressers' car!), Peugeot 305 (unlikely, as the boot lid opened alone), Citroen (old one, cannot recall model) and the rest were estates, so no issues there.

Just to add, I am in no way attempting to promote the Blue and white badge. Not in any way shape or form.
I apologise profusely and unreservedly for any inference, deliberate or otherwise that might imply ownership, involvement, or use of said retards vehicle. I realise now that would be considered an insult of the highest order. I was merely thinking aloud and didn't mean to imply anything more. Once again. Sincerely sorry. :-[

Thanks for that fulsome apology, Chris - definitely no hard feelings!
As I understand it, before dealerships will allow you to buy a BumWee you have to go on an intensive course at PratSchool to learn how to drive like an a**ehole in all circumstance and have the magic eyes fitted - you know the ones, they let you see clearly through the densest of fogs - and to have any trace of consideration for other drivers surgically removed.....

I don't think they fit the magic eyes any more ron, due to the fact that they all drive in their own lane (Known to us plebs as the outside lane) and they all just push each other along ;D

We have our thermal imaging cameras on heads up display to do that for us.  ;) :y Failing that, we have our active/adaptive cruise to keep us all equally spaced in the outside lane, so have no fear, we know you are there  :y When we are hogging lane 3, we want to see where we are going, not where we've been, so rear wash wipe not needed.  :y ;D
