As a point of reference, the two DTi's I've had used about 1/2 a pint of coolant every 3 - 4K (used to check everytime I changed the oil) there was no obvious signs of leakage and the preheater was bypassed on one of them.

Obviously they shouldn't use any really but that's my findings, on two cars that covered about 40k and 35k.
