Did you have a new ABS unit, or the old repaired?

reason I ask, regardless of the label / part numbers...

they also have a config...

which can be

not set
or
engine size
and
gearbox type

When mine was replaced, it was brand new, and had no config....this caused several issues, such as TC light on (and a stalling issue)

I am thinking yours came out an auto, so cannot see the auto data it is looking for, hence throwing up a fault.

do you have easy access to tech2 or "My Naff Code Reader" (maybe)?

ahhh just reread....you have "My Naff Code Reader".

now on later abs ecu's (ie 98 onwards) "My Naff Code Reader" can set the varient coding. ( no idea on earlier, but doesnt hurt to check for the option)

ive never tried it, so cant guarantee success...

off the top of my head, in the abs menu
you should have fault codes, live data, special functions (lets you activate pump) and programming, where you can specify engine and gearbox type.

may be worth a try  :y

i used the setting ion the "My Naff Code Reader" to change the settings as it was saying that the ecu was automatic so i changed that to manual with a bit of googleing to help me and got it sorted

lights and the tc switch works :y

With your car being a manual my guess would be that the abs ecu is off an auto and hence is complaining about the lack of signal from the auto box (which the car doesn't have).
Hence the abs ecu needs a chat with a tech2 to set the variant code correctly.
when i got the abs unit me and the seller made sure all the part numbers and the code on the yellow sticker on the unit was the same

I agree. Likely to be that the unit is incorrectly coded for the vehicle.

Let's try that again after reading page 2. ::)

Yes, it's bound to be the variant coding. :y

Glad it's sorted.
