C2006 Bose will not accept code.
« on: 12 November 2011, 08:47:05 »

After removing the fuses and relays to check them to try to resolve a different problem the CD/Radio went into safe mode. Before I did remove the fuses I had made sure I had the re-activation code to hand. It was on a new car pass that had been supplied when I bought the car. As all the other info on the card was from VX I thought that it would be correct.
It wasn't. The thing will not accept the code given and I have tried it twice exactly as instructed by the manual.
Is there any other method or do I have to take it to a dealership to re-activate the system?
Would it be more cost effective, given that the front CD flap will not close anyway, to replace the head unit with one that has the correct activation code or suffer the dealer costs provided that they can do it?
Lousy git did not tell me when I bought it that the unit had been changed. There again it had not been serviced properly either as his 'paperwork' had shown.
My experience when I have now worked on it is that the work was done by some lousy back street so called garage by someone who was not fit to make the tea.
I am getting it back to standard slowly but surely into what it should be.

It's the original.  It took a couple of hours via a phone call from the dealer to get the code. New car pass will be sent out by post in the next few days... :y

Unlike the dealerships who will charge you irrespective of the numbers you get,

I can offer a 100% guarantee of your code number for any radio sent to me  :y

 ;D ;D ;D

My luck was in! Yippee, more money saved for Xmas :y
Before I went to parcel it up to send off to be done and having another 8 attempts before it locked itself out I tried another random number taken from birthdates and on the third attempt it worked!!!!!! Fortunately I wrote them down as I tried them so now I have altered the CarPass VX supplied for £27.00 and once again I shall have music wherever I go.
Can VX be trusted? I don't know but I do know from contacting its previous owners (a very small number) that the original unit had never been changed which makes VX's records incorrect. I told the dealership what I had done and asked if there was a chance of a credit......guess what the answer was ;)
Yep, you got it.... a big fat NO.  :-\ no surprise there then......

Not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere it is possible to disable the code on these units.

Not "disabled" as such, but if the radio is working OK. Go through the coding process again then if ever battery is disconnected the radio will not ask for the code when re-connected

It clearly has - the dealer uses the carpass to enter the code when its sold ;)

I have again asked the other 2 owners and both tell me that the unit had never gone wrong or gave any reason to replace it.  Because it was in the hands of the dealer only when it was sold the first time and subsequently for its services it can only be that somehow when the new car pass was bought because the original was lost that the information got muddled. No data record service is wholly reliable when the human touch is involved as it has been demonstrated time and again by different problems within companies and the dear government. Vauxhall is no different cos its not the first time I have been given the wrong part even after giving them the vin number. This mig is totally original and unmodified too.  Perhaps a wrong key was pressed, maybe the file was corrupted but whatever it was. it did happen.
Anyway, it makes no difference now because I have solved the issue and recorded the code that worked. Tempted to try my luck with the lottery now using the same birthdays.......you never know  ::)

If the cars regularly came down the production line and reached the end user with the same stereo that they started off with, then I would be out of business. Do not for a minute think this is a one off scenario or some typo by a data entry clerk. Whether its a fault in production, or QA, or a specification change or error, or the garage change them over on the forecourt just to get a customer going, it happens more than you would beleive.

I`m glad it does, as I`ve just celebrated my 19th year in business due to this problem
